Marlborough Town Make it 3 Wins in a Row

Ludgershall Sports and Marlborough Town defied Storm Dennis to provide the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League with its only action this weekend, as the remaining six scheduled games all fell victim to the awful weather. Credit to Ludgershall for getting their game on and for the two sides and the officials for seeing the game through until the end in very difficult conditions. Marlborough Town made it three wins in their last three games with a 4-2 success that saw them climb two places in the table to 10th spot. Jake Farrell was once again amongst the goals for the visitors, taking his total for the season to 14, the other Marlborough goals coming courtesy of Luke Connolly, Jamie Conway and Josh Gregory. Joe Evans and Luke Sadler with the two Ludgershall goals.

The weather also played havoc with the fixtures in the Under 18 Division in midweek with just the one game getting the go ahead. That was at Shrivenham where the home side went top of the division thanks to a 4-1 win over Downton. On target for the hosts were Dylan Boulton with two, Jack Lewis and Kieron Sutton, this after Brad Waters had put visitors Downton ahead. The win saw Shrivenham go a point clear of FC Chippenham at the top of the table but Shrivenham have played two more games than the Chippenham side, with the two sides set to meet at the end of the month.

Action in the Veterans Division was in the prestigious Wiltshire FA County Veterans Cup where the first two games at the quarter final stage took place. In the first of the two games in midweek Marlborough Town lost for the first time this season when they were beaten 5-2 at the InfiLED Stadium by Melksham Town who progress through to the semi-final. In the other game played, which was between two sides in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Vets Division, it was Stratton Juniors who triumphed and progress to the semi-final stage after a penalty shoot out win over Royal Wootton Bassett Town Yellow, this after it had finished 1-1 at the end of normal time. Vince McMackin with the Stratton Juniors goal, his sixth of the season, Ben Gould replying for Royal Wootton Bassett. In the penalty shoot-out Stratton were 4-3 winners to progress through to the last four. The remaining two quarter final ties, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Blue v Trowbridge Tigers and St Andrews & Holt v Swindon Rovers have still to be scheduled.

Hopefully the  weather will improve this coming week so that more games can get played next week. For some teams in the Premier Division it is already looking like a busy April in what is probably one of the wettest seasons in the league's history.
