The Vets Divisions of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League got under way this week with the first game kicking off on Monday night in the Mid Wiltshire Division at the InfiLED Stadium where Melksham Town entertained Trowbridge Tigers. It was tight affair in the first half, but the deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Steve Tweddle put Melksham in front. It was a different story after the break as Melksham stepped up a gear and former Swindon Town striker Charlie Griffin helped himself to four goals, Steve Tweddle got his second of the game and Francis Coleman also scored as Melksham ran out comfortable 7-0 winners.

The same night, also in the Mid Wiltshire Division, Amesbury Juniors and Bradford Town met at Green Lane, Devizes in a meeting between two new sides to the league. It was Bradford Town who got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 win, Paul Beavers with both the Bradford Town goals.

The following night another new side to the league FC Calne met last season’s top Vets side, Marlborough Town, again in the Mid Wiltshire Division. Last season Marlborough had won all 7 of the league games they had played and looked to be the side that would go on to win the inaugural Vets league having also been the last winners of the Wiltshire FA’s Flexi-League. However, Covid-19 struck to deny them the chance of further silverware. Their run of victories came to an end in their opening league game of this season as they went down 2-1, Stuart Ballinger and Adam O’Keefe with the FC Calne goals, Craig Wall replying for Marlborough.

In the North Division KMLC got their season off to a winning start with a 7-0 victory over AFC Swindon. On target for KMLC were Neil Matthews, Nick McRae and Gary Ashford, who all scored twice, and Paul Cooper.
