Melksham Town were in action again in the Veteran’s Mid Wiltshire Division on Monday night when they welcomed near neighbours Corsham Town to the InfiLED Stadium. Last week former Swindon Town striker Charlie Griffin had scored four in Melksham’s opener against Trowbridge Tigers. He was at it again on Monday night opening the scoring from the penalty spot on 24 minutes. Former Forest Green Rovers striker Steve Tweddle then made it 2-0 to Melksham before Simon Gray pulled one back for Corsham. Two late goals from Charlie Griffin, making it seven goals in just two games, ensured Melksham Town ran out 4-1 winners and already look like they are going to take some stopping in the Mid Wiltshire Division with their strike force.

The same night, also in the Mid Wiltshire Division, VFC Devizes and FC Calne met at Green Lane, Devizes. FC Calne were looking to build on their opening day win over Marlborough Town, whilst for Devizes it was their first game of the season. Lee Sanders opened the scoring with a goal for VFC Devizes after 15 minutes. Samuel Weller then made it 2-0 just before half time. A second half goal from Craig Townsend completed the scoring for VFC Devizes in an excellent 3-0 win to get their season up and running.

The following night another new side to the league getting their season underway were St Andrews who played Amesbury Juniors who had opened their season last week with a narrow 2-0 defeat to Bradford Town. It was to be honours even in this one, Samuel Craig scoring for Amesbury and Stuart Powell netting for St Andrews in the 1-1 draw.

In the North Division two sides, Redhouse and Stratton Juniors,  who had met a few weeks back in a pre-season friendly were involved in their opening league fixture at New College. In that earlier meeting Redhouse had won comfortably but it was a much closer affair this time round. Two goals from David Rendell and one from substitute Neil Lee saw Redhouse edge it by the odd goal in five, Vince McMackin and Jamie Ashby with the Stratton goals.

Reminder to teams in the North Wiltshire Division – As previously advised to clubs, the spectators area at the New College facility is closed so no spectators should attend games being played at the New College facility. Furthermore, given that the spectator’s area is closed, please do not arrive early as there will be nowhere to wait.
