Wroughton go top with
RWB Town Dev in 2nd place

Tyler Sheppard who scored the winner at Cricklade for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Dev

Precautions regarding Covid-19 resulted in two games being postponed this Saturday. An attempt was made by the league to re-schedule a game between Odd Down Reserves and Marlborough Town, which received the blessing of both club secretaries, with Odd Down also making the arrangements to stage the match at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground, but in the end Marlborough Town's manager deemed it too short notice for his side to play an away game and this game was also unfortunately postponed. With the postponement of games for Covid-19 precautions becoming more regular we would again ask clubs to be co-operative and more flexible in trying to get more games played in order to help completing what is going to be a difficult season for everyone.

With the league leaders at the start of the day, Pewsey Vale, without a game, Wroughton had the opportunity to go top of the table with a win away at Trowbridge Town. The two sides did not get to meet last season but the two games in Season 2018-19 had both ended in 1-1 draws and Wroughton travelled expecting another tough game as they looked to maintain their run which had seen them win all five of their opening fixtures. A goal from Devan Bryan, taking him to eight for the season and early leadership of the goal scoring chart, set them on the way. Aaron Maximen, who had scored a hat-trick in midweek, then added two more to his personal tally since returning from Highworth Town as Wroughton secured a 3-0 win to take over at the top of the table.
Two in-form teams met at Cricklade Leisure Centre where Cricklade Town's visitors were Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development. Cricklade came into the game having won four of their opening five fixtures, whilst Wootton Bassett Town were unbeaten in the opening five games, also having won four. Neither side really created much in the opening 25 minutes as both sides quickly shut the other down and it was something of a scrappy affair. However, the game came into life on 27 minutes when Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s David Bampton, who was making his debut, hit a shot from outside the box which was turned over the bar one-handed by Cricklade keeper Max Scholefield. The resulting corner saw the ball played in low into the Cricklade six-yard box and the defence failed to deal with it allowing Tyler Sheppard to scramble the ball over the line. It remained 1-0 at the break. Second half continued in a similar vein to the opening 45 and it was not until the hour mark before there was a real chance on goal, Royal Wootton Bassett’s Manuel Mesas getting behind the Cricklade defence but he shot straight at Scholefield. George Lance then found himself in space on the edge of the Cricklade box but fired his shot well over the bar. Cricklade had a chance to get back on level terms moments later when a ball over the top was completely miskicked by the visitor’s goalkeeper Adam House but luckily for him George Drewitt was covering behind him to clear the lines. At the other end Tyler Sheppard went close to scoring his second but shot wide of the far post after getting behind the Cricklade defence. Cricklade’s best chance came on 65 minutes. Substitute Will Backhouse dispossessed Ben Brown and set up Jason Tatum on the edge of the six-yard box but his shot at point blank range was saved by Adam House and the follow-up shot was also well saved by House who more than redeemed himself for his earlier miskick. The visitors went close twice to extending their lead, firstly Tyler Sheppard when clean through fired wide of the left-hand post and then substitute Michael Gilder was through one-on-one with Cricklade keeper Scholefield who won the duel saving with his feet. From the resulting corner Royal Wootton Bassett Town Dev’s George Drewitt headed over when unchallenged. They nearly came to rue those missed chances when Cricklade substitute Will Backhouse got behind the visitor’s defence but saw his shot hit the outside of the post and go for a goal kick. Backhouse’s afternoon had been eventful since his introduction but, having been booked soon after coming on for a rash challenge, he picked up a second yellow for a similar challenge and was sent off, effectively ending the home sides chances. Royal Wootton Bassett Town saw out the closing minutes to win 1-0 and extend that unbeaten run to six games and move second in the table, two points behind leaders Wroughton. Action from today's game between Cricklade Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development

After a poor start to the season Melksham Town Reserves had won three out of the last four games ahead of their trip to Devizes Town Reserves.  Devizes had failed to register a win against their opponents in any of the last ten league meetings and that run continued as Melksham came away from Devizes with all three points following a 2-0 win. Rhys Talmash took his personal tally for the season to seven, whilst Dan Sibley also got on the score sheet making four so far this season for him. That is now three straight wins on the road for Melksham, which sees them move up into sixth spot  ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Malmesbury Victoria Development.
Ludgershall Sports have once again had a tough start to the season but travelled to Frome Collegians today hoping that they would finally get their first points of the season having run Frome close in the one fixture between the two sides last season. That game last season had seen Frome win with the only goal of the game, but it was no close-run thing this time round as Frome ran out comfortable 6-1 winners this time around. Jake Wright has been in good form for the Somerset based side this season and helped himself to his second hat-trick of the season. There were further goals from Barry Sandquest and Matt Parsons plus an own goal to complete the scoring for Frome.
Stratton Juniors  and Malmesbury Victoria Development did not get to play each other in last season's curtailed campaign and met for the first time at Meadowcroft this afternoon in what turned out to be a game full of goals. Trailing 3-1 with just fifteen minutes left it looked like Malmesbury Victoria Development would return from Swindon without any points, but a late rally saw them score three unanswered goals to take all three points.  Two goals from Ryan Major had put Stratton 2-0 to the good before Joe Tranter pulled one back for Malmesbury. Moses Naisarani then restored Stratton’s two goal advantage but late goals from James Archer, Harrison Archer and Aaron Sanghera, the latter moving onto four for the season, ensured Malmesbury ran out 4-3 winners.
