Pewsey hit another five as
Frome inflict first defeat on Wroughton
League leaders Pewsey Vale travelled to Corsham Town Reserves on the back of a big win in midweek that had ended their two-game winless run. They have certainly returned to form adding another five goals this afternoon to the five they scored in midweek with an impressive 5-2 success over a determined Corsham Town Reserves side still trying to get back to last season’s form. Two more goals for the experienced James Guthrie, taking him to seven for the season, but two goals also for youngster Rory England, his first goals in senior football. Harry Hoareau also found the target with his fourth of the season as Pewsey retained top spot ahead of Wednesday evening’s trip to Devizes Town Reserves.  For Corsham Town Reserves, whose scorers were Ben Wickens and Ryan Withers, they will look to bounce back from this latest defeat on the same night when they entertain Malmesbury Vics Development.
Wroughton started the day in second place looking to make it seven straight wins with a win against Frome Collegians.  Last season when they met at the Weir Field, Wroughton just edged it 3-2 and with Frome in decent form themselves with three wins in the last four, Wroughton knew they would need to be at their best to maintain that 100% record. That said few would have predicted the final score line of 6-2 to Frome Collegians, the second consecutive week that they had hit six goals. Last week Jake Wright had scored a hat-trick and he went one better against Wroughton with four goals taking his total for the season to 11, Max Pollock and a James Hounsell penalty completing the scoring for the visitors in their best performance since joining the league. Devan Bryan and Shane Hibbert replied for Wroughton. It was bad day at the office all round for Wroughton as player manager Anthony Packer and defender Gareth Davies both saw red in the second half. Frome climbed a place into 5th spot whilst Wroughton dropped down to third as a result of their first defeat of the season.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development started the afternoon in third place following an unbeaten start to the season that had seen them win five of their six opening fixtures, whilst opponents Marlborough Town had hit a bit of a bad patch, losing their last three games but conscious that they had beaten their opponents in the corresponding fixture last season during a run of four wins just prior to the shutters coming down on the 2019-20 Season. There was to be no repeat this season as the visitors continued their good start to the season. Tyler Sheppard put them ahead with a first half penalty and it remained 1-0 at the break. Visitors Royal Wootton Bassett Town were then reduced to ten men just after half time when George Ford was sent off for a second yellow card. Despite the numerical disadvantage the visitors ensured Marlborough were unable to get back into the game, in what was a physical battle all afternoon, and a second from Bailey Gallagher five minutes from time made certain of the three points. The win lifted Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development into second place, three points behind Pewsey but with two games in hand, whilst Marlborough dropped a place to 15th.
Ahead of their trip to the Red House to play Purton, Melksham Town Reserves had won their last four and five of their last six games and were one of the in form sides in the division. They had shot up the table to fourth place following a come from behind win in midweek at Malmesbury. The winning run now stretches to five after an impressive performance saw them score five unanswered goals against a Purton side with high expectations this season. Rhys Talmash took his goal tally into double figures with two more and Dan Sibley also bagged a brace with his sixth and seventh goals of the season. A first of the season from Josh Brigham rounded off the scoring for the visitors who remain in fourth place but move level on points with Wroughton ahead of big game on Tuesday night which sees From Collegians, buoyed by that win at Wroughton, come to the InfiLED as fourth play fifth in the table.

Shrewton United were looking to close in the top four sides with a win against Stratton Juniors. Shrewton had done the league double over Stratton last season but Stratton have made a reasonable start to the season and travelled confident of achieving some sort of result. In a game that was not really for the football purists, with both sides not at their best, the two sides battled away restricting each other to one goal apiece, Ben Parfitt scoring for Shrewton and Chris Price, with his second of the season, with the Stratton goal as it finished 1-1.  Shrewton dropped one place in the table whilst Stratton remained in 12th spot in the table.
Cricklade Town were looking to bounce back from last week's narrow defeat against Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development when they entertained the young Odd Down Reserves side at the Leisure Centre this afternoon in the first ever meeting between the sides. It looked good for Cricklade early on as two goals from Tom McCulloch put them in the driving seat.  The first came from a shot from outside the box on the right-hand side of the area which bounced just in front of the keeper and went under his dive. The second also came down the right, McCulloch’s initial shot being blocked but he made no mistake with his second from the edge of the six-yard box.  However, a goal from 16 year old Tom Ricketts five minutes before half time got Odd Down back into the game, the youngster curling a ball past Max Scholefield in the Cricklade goal from the left hand side of the 18-yard box. Alex Baker went close to restoring Cricklade’s two goal advantage, but his shot went just wide of the post and it remained 2-1 at the break. Odd Down were back on level terms ten minutes after the restart, Harvey Kendrick heading in from a corner.  Brad Evans, with his third of the season, then put Odd Down in front for the first time around the hour mark.  A misplaced defensive header saw Odd Down two on one against Scholefield and a neat pass to Evans left him with the simple chance of tapping it into the net for 3-2. After that Odd Down had a good chance to extend their lead but a free kick from the edge of box was well saved by Scholefield in the Cricklade goal. Cricklade were unable to recover from going behind, the nearest they came to an equaliser was a Jason Tatum effort that went over the bar and they went down narrowly at home for the second consecutive week. Odd Down moved up a place to 10th as a result of their third win of the season, all of which have come away from home. Your Sport Swindon were at the game and highlights can be found on their website using the link below or the link from the Your Sport Swindon page on our website which can be accessed from the main menu.

Trowbridge Town had an excellent win in the week at Corsham and were looking to build on that success against visitors Devizes Town Reserves this afternoon. Devizes had also had a good win in midweek, their first of the season, and travelled  to Woodmarsh in good spirits aiming for a second win of the season. Whilst Trowbridge created a number of good chances the only one they were able to take was from the penalty spot, Joshua Hard with his second of the season, but it was enough to secure the three points for the home side.  Trowbridge climbed a place in the table to 8th.
Two sides who suffered defeats in midweek met at Astor Crescent this afternoon when Ludgershall Sports entertained Malmesbury Vics Development. In a tough 2019-20 Season, Ludgershall Sports had won just one game and it came in Malmesbury’s visit to Astor Crescent, Ludgershall edging a tight game that day 2-1. There was to be no repeat this season as goals from James Tilley, Joe Tranter and James Archer, the latter with his fourth of the season, gave visitors Malmesbury Victoria Development a 3-0 win and for Ludgershall that is now eight straight defeats.  The win for Malmesbury saw them move up a place to 9th.
