Just one of the scheduled midweek games in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League survived the wet weather this week but the game that did go ahead was the game at the top end of the table between two of the in-form teams in the division, Melksham Town Reserves
and Frome Collegians. Melksham came into the game having five in a row whilst Frome had won four of their last five. The game was expected to be a close and entertaining affair and it did not disappoint. Both sides managed to hit the woodwork before Rhys Talmash put the home side Melksham ahead with his 11th goal of the season on 38 minutes, Talmash hitting affine side footed shot from 20 yards which gave the Frome keeper Liam Ashman no chance. Five minutes after the break Melksham had Nick Chandler sent off for a second yellow card offence, not for the first time this season that Melksham have had to play with a numerical disadvantage. Frome pressed hard for the equaliser as they looked to take advantage of the extra man but found the Melksham keeper Harry Pickering and his defence in fine form. Despite the pressure Frome were unable to penetrate the Melksham defence and five minutes from time Melksham’s other leading striker Dan Sibley dispossessed a Frome defender and won his one-on-one duel with Ashman to put Melksham 2-0 up with his 8th of the campaign and ensure Melksham took all three points. Their sixth consecutive win sent them into second place in the table, one point behind leaders Pewsey but having played two games more than the leaders. Next up for Melksham on Saturday are Ludgershall Sports, whilst Frome have another tough looking away game at Cricklade Town.
The games between Corsham Town Reserves and Malmesbury Vics Development and Devizes Town Reserves and Pewsey Vale were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
