VFC Devizes and Melksham Town both maintained their 100% winning starts to the season in the Mid Wiltshire Veteran’s Division this week. On Monday evening VFC Devizes made it five straight wins with a hard fought 4-2 victory over Trowbridge Tigers. A goal from Craig Townsend after 5 minutes set them on their way. Leading scorer Nick Oram added a second just before the break as VFC Devizes led 2-0 at the interval. Trowbridge Tigers pulled one back straight after half time through Clifford Sakyi but Craig Townsend restored his sides two goal advantage with his second of the game. Substitute Marcus Wallen then made sure of the points for VFC Devizes with a fourth before Trowbridge scored again courtesy of an own goal to make the final score 4-2 to VFC Devizes.

The following night Melksham Town played their first game of the season away from the InfiLED Stadium with a first visit to Devizes to take on FC Calne. With Charlie Griffin not playing Steve Tweddle took the opportunity to close in on his team mate in the league’s leading veterans goal scorer table with two early goals to put Melksham in command. Further goals from Thomas Staddon and substitute Barry Holloway completed a 4-0 win for Melksham which moved them back within three points of VFC Devizes. With Melksham playing twice more before they then meet VFC Devizes, in what will be Devizes’ next match, Melksham could well have overtaken the current league leaders ahead of that crunch game at the InfiLED. Before that though Melksham will need to ensure they pick up maximum points against Chippenham Town Yard Dogs and Marlborough Town in their next two games.

Also on Tuesday night, the one game in the North Wiltshire Division saw a big win for KMLC against Swindon Rovers. KMLC led 3-1 at the break thanks to goals from Lee McMullen, Nick McRae and Tim Hughes. Three unanswered goals in the second half, Graeme Little scoring twice and Ian Wilmer with the other securing a 6-1 win for KMLC which lifted them into second spot in the table, three points behind leaders Redhouse, with the two sides set to meet in their next league game next month.

In other matters, all the fixtures in the Wiltshire FA's Veterans County Cup have now been scheduled and appear on the league's FA Full Time site.
