Day of comeback wins
in two high scoring games

Dale Richards who scored twice in Royal Wootton Bassett Town's comeback win at Frome Collegians

The wet weather once again played havoc with the fixtures in the Premier Division with the games at Corsham, Ludgershall, Pewsey Vale, Purton and Wroughton all falling victim to the torrential rain leaving just two games to be played, both of which saw the winning sides come back from 3-1 deficits at half time to win their games.

Ahead of their clash with Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development, Frome Collegians received the sad news that one of their club founders John Fuller had passed away on Friday night. John was instrumental in setting up the club 45 years ago and was the club’s longest serving committee member and had still been attending all games home and away at the age of 90.  The thoughts of all those involved with the league are with John's family and friends at this sad time. A minutes silence was held in John’s memory before Frome’s game today which had been switched to the artificial 3G pitch at Selwood Academy to enable the game to go ahead. In the match itself it was looking good for the home side at half-time as they led 3-1 against the only unbeaten side in the division. Bailey Gallagher had put visitors Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development ahead with his fifth of the season but the rest of the half was dominated by Frome who scored three times, Barry Sandquest with two and Ross Knapton, with his first of the season, giving Frome that interval lead. The lead could have been bigger such was the home side’s impressive first half showing. It was a different story after the break though as the visitors responded to a stern half time team talk with a spirited comeback. Leading scorer Dale Richards pulled one back before netting again for his seventh of the season to level matters up at 3-3. A last-minute winner from Charlie McCuish sealed all three points for the visitors to ensure that only unbeaten record, which how stretches to nine games, remained intact. The win saw Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development move level on points with Pewsey Vale at the top of the table, with a game in hand. Frome meanwhile remain in fifth spot.

The other game to go ahead was at Devizes where two sides looking to end a run of defeats met at Nursteed Road. Odd Down had lost their previous two games whilst Devizes Town Reserves had been beaten in their last three and had just one win to their name from their opening eight games. It started well for the home side Devizes though as they went into a 2-0 lead, both goals being scored by Nick Rideout. Jacob Bird then pulled one back for Odd Down before Rideout restored Devizes two goal advantage with his third of the game, his hat-trick coming in a 20-minute spell to give Devizes a 3-1 lead at half time. However, the young Odd Down side responded well in the second half and pulled one back through Dan Taylor to make it 3-2. Devante Halladey then got in on the goal scoring act, netting twice as Odd Down completed a tremendous comeback to take all three points and secure their fourth win of the campaign. The 4-3 win saw Odd Down move up a couple of places in the table to 10th spot.
