There were three midweek games in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League on Wednesday night with the top match of the evening being at the Southbank Ground where Calne Town Reserves were the visitors in the second team ‘A4 Derby’. Calne Town Reserves started the night in third place looking to close the gap to the top two and return to winning ways after losing narrowly at Salisbury on Saturday. Corsham had also been defeated on Saturday and started the night two points and one place below Calne in the table. Jamal Chevelleau has been in excellent goal scoring form since he moved from the Southbank Ground to Calne and he continued that form when he scored his ninth goal since joining Calne to put them one goal to the good in a positive start for the visitors. Another recent signing Rhys Talmash then scored twice, all within the opening 20 minutes, to put Calne in the driving seat at 3-0. After such a poor start Corsham could easily have fallen apart but derby games are about local pride and they dug deep and pulled one back almost straight away when Jamie Cunning scored his fourth of the season to make it 3-1. The same player then added a second just after the half hour mark to reduce the deficit to just one going into the half time break. Within six minutes of the restart that lead had disappeared, Adam Mitchell notching his third of the season to square things up at three apiece. After having let a three-goal slip Calne were not to be denied though, Jamal Chevelleau capping off a happy personal return to the Southbank Ground with his second of the game to secure a 4-3 win. Corsham had to play the last 15 minutes with just ten men after Jonathan Bazley was sent off and there was not to be any further come back goals as Calne held out for the three points to take back along the A4.

Malmesbury Victoria Development have made a decent start to the season with four wins in their opening seven games and had the chance to move into the top six with a win over visitors Stratton Juniors who had picked up their second win of the season on Saturday by defeating Devizes Town Reserves 3-1. It was the home side who made the early break through Harrison Archer firing in for one nil. It remained tight for the rest of the first half with just that one goal separating the sides at the break. James Archer made it 2-0 soon after the restart before Stratton pulled a goal back through Ryan Cooper. Joe Tranter regained the two-goal advantage for Malmesbury to make it 3-1 and from there on the second half very much belong to the home side. Two quick goals from Jack Duckers made it 5-1, Josh Gale added a sixth, before Duckers completed what was a second half hat-trick to put Malmesbury 7-1 to the good. Tranter then made it 8-1 before Stratton pulled one back through Mike Cox. That was not the end of the scoring on the night tough , Malmesbury were awarded a late penalty and Tranter stepped up to become the second player on the night to score a second half hat-trick as it finished 9-2 to Malmesbury after an impressive second half performance.

Trowbridge Town started the night in fifth spot and were looking to close the gap to the top four sides by securing a fifth win of the season after suffering a setback on Saturday against Shrewton United. They were up against an Odd Down side who had run a number of the top sides very close in the games played so far this season and this one was no different. Odd Down went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Harvey Kendrick but it was player manager Jamie Jordan who got his side back on level terms with his sixth goal of the season. Raphael Waugh restored Odd Down’s one goal advantage but once again Trowbridge came back at the home side and went back level when a ball over the top found Mark Robinson who turned on the edge of the 18-yard box and fired a left footed shot into the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-2. It was to get even better for Jamie Jordan's side as they went ahead for the first time in the game, although there was an element of good fortune about the goal, with the ball being deflected into his own net by an Odd Down player. The win for Trowbridge saw them draw level on points with Corsham Town Development on 16 points but they have two games in hand over Corsham and also Calne Town Reserves whom they trail by five points.
Wiltshire Senior Cup

Two more Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League sides were in action in midweek in the Wiltshire Senior Cup with both Pewsey Vale and Shrewton United both playing Step 6 opponents. Unfortunately, there was to be no giant killing after both exited the Wiltshire FA’s most prestigious competition at the first stage. For Pewsey Vale it was their first defeat in a competitive match since October 2020 and ended their winning run which had stretched to 20 games. Uhlsport Hellenic League side Malmesbury Vics were on top in the opening stages and nearly went ahead in the opening minutes. Pewsey eventually go a foothold in the game and Connor Marsden went close to putting Pewsey ahead but was unable to take the chance. Malmesbury made Pewsey pay for the miss, Jack Hobson-McVeigh curling a free kick into the corner of the net to make it 1-0 to Malmesbury just before the interval. Malmesbury extended their lead five minutes into the second half when they were awarded a hotly contested penalty which Matt Fusco put away to make it 2-0. The closest Pewsey came to getting back into the game was when header from Wes Britten hit the crossbar and the game was put beyond them on 76 minutes when Alfie Presley fired in a shot from the edge of the box to make it 3-0. There was still time, however, for a late consolation goal, James Guthrie scoring with his 11th of the season to make the final score 3-1.
The other game on Tuesday evening saw Shrewton United make the short trip to Salisbury to meet Bemerton Heath Harlequins. Two early goals put Bemerton in the driving seat and it was former Shrewton player Ronan Clancy who set them on their way scoring from 25-yards. Clancy had last played for Shrewton back in Season 2019-20 and came back to inflict pain on his former teammates. The second came when Callum Sweeney rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the net. A third before the break from Josh Moore effectively ended the match as a contest but credit to underdogs Shrewton who continued to play attractive football and limited the home side to just one further goal, Moore scoring his second of the game as the home side Bemerton progressed to the next round courtesy of a 4-0 win.
The Devizes Town v Ludgershall Sports game was postponed because of Covid concerns in the Ludgershall camp, and the game has been awarded to Devizes Town.

At the moment the only Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League side through to Round Two are Marlborough Town, although another side from the league is guaranteed a place in the next round with Stratton Juniors playing Wroughton on Saturday. They can also be joined by Trowbridge Town if they defeat Step 6 opponents Warminster Town, that game also this coming Saturday.
