Trowbridge Knock Out Step 6 Side
Warminster Town in  Wilts Senior Cup

Trowbridge Town who knocked Warminster Town out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup to progress to the Quarter Final Stage

The headlines this week belong to Trowbridge Town, the last team from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League to win the Wiltshire FA’s Senior Cup,  as they knocked Step 6 side Warminster Town from the Toolstation Western League out of this season’s competition thanks to two first half goals in front of a three-figure crowd at Woodmarsh. Ryan Baggs got them off to a good start converting a penalty early on before Jordan Gullis then extended the lead heading in from a corner from player-manager Jamie Jordan. It remained 2-0 at the break. Second half Warminster sought to get back in the game and midway through the half were awarded a penalty of their own. However, the spot kick was well saved by Trowbridge keeper Sam Jepson to maintain his sides two goal advantage. Trowbridge saw the game out and will now eagerly await the quarter final draw. At times this season Trowbridge Town have been inconsistent, but manager Jamie Jordan was delighted with his team today.

“It was a really good performance today, we have been either very good or very bad this season but performed how we should today and have knocked out one of the two favourites for the cup, it has been a really good day.”

Joining both Trowbridge and Marlborough Town in the quarter final are Wroughton who were comfortable winners away to fellow Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League side Stratton Juniors. Wroughton went in front thanks to a goal from Ashley Andrews and extended their lead through Sam Long with his second goal of the season. Stratton then pulled one back with a half volley from Mike Cox from just inside the Wroughton half to make it 2-1. Wroughton restored their two-goal advantage courtesy of an own goal and Andrews made sure that it was his side who would be in the hat for the quarter final draw, firing in a powerful shot from 20-yards out to make the final score 4-1 to Wroughton. The two sides are set to meet again next week in the league. Commenting after the game Wroughton joint manager Ben Jarrett is now hoping that his side can start picking up more points in the league.

“With games coming up against the teams around us in the table in Stratton, Devizes Town and Marlborough Town, hopefully we can start giving a good account of ourselves and pick up some points.”
In addition to the two cup games there were five games in the league this afternoon. Second in the table Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development found it tough going in the first half in their game away to Frome Collegians. The home side sat deep and the division’s leading scorers struggled to create any chances against the well organised Frome defence. It was a different story after the half time break, Nick Mason broke the deadlock scoring for the visitors, Dale Richards added a second before Mason netted again for his second of the game and his fourth of the season. The visitors continued to dominate the second half and a second of the game from Richards and a 13th goal of the season from Matt Bennett rounded off a 5-0 away win that had looked improbable at half time. The win lifted Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development to within three points of leaders Pewsey Vale with a game in hand but they have a tough looking trip coming up in midweek when they make the short journey to Calne where their unbeaten record is likely to be severely tested.
Calne Town Reserves remain level on points with Royal Wootton Bassett ahead of that game on Tuesday night as they picked up their eighth win of the season with a comfortable 8-1 success away at Ludgershall Sports. Rhys Talmash had scored in both Calne’s last two games, and he was once again amongst the goals, helping himself to four in Calne’s latest win. His strike partner Kassa Anderson registered a hat-trick and a further goal from Dan Skinner concluded the scoring for an in-form Calne side. Cameron Metcalfe with the consolation goal for Ludgershall Sports.
One of the tasty looking games ahead of the weekend was Salisbury FC Development’s first ever trip to Corsham Town Development. Salisbury went into the game on the back of their fine win the previous Saturday against Calne Town Reserves whilst Corsham had gone close in midweek against the same opponents, pulling back a three-goal deficit to then be beaten by a winner from their former player Jamal Chevelleau. The game lived up to expectations with the sides serving up another high scoring game, Corsham eventually edging it by the odd goal in seven. Adam Mitchell was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick for Corsham, Chay Forrester with the other Corsham goal. Salisbury’s scorers were Devon Arnold, who bagged a brace and who moved onto nine for the season, and Will Waterson. Corsham remain in fourth place following the win, five points adrift to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development and Calne Town Reserves, Salisbury remained in ninth place ahead of a midweek home game against Marlborough Town.

Shrewton United’s form has improved in recent weeks coinciding with the capture of Christian Boothe from Amesbury. They trailed at half time in their game against Melksham Town Reserves, it had been a tight contest with chances at both ends but the one taken was by former Marlborough Town striker Jake Farrell to give Melksham that 1-0 advantage at half time. Shrewton stepped it up second half scoring three unanswered goals. Lee Weeks put them back on level terms firing in from an acute angle. Weeks then went from scorer to provider, James Dolman getting on the end of a Weeks corner to head into the net for 2-1. Shrewton have been without leading scorer Charlie Utterson in recent games due to injury, but he was instrumental in the goal from Boothe that made certain of the points for Shrewton on his return to the side, Utterson setting up Boothe for the third Shrewton goal as it finished 3-1 to the home side. Shrewton climbed a couple of places to sixth place, their highest position of the season so far, whilst Melksham dropped a place to eighth and will look to bounce back in midweek when they entertain Frome Collegians.

The final game of the day was at Nursteed Road where Marlborough Town were Devizes Town Reserves visitors. Devizes went into the game on the back of seven straight defeats, but they brought that run to an end securing a point in a 1-1 draw. Tyler Moore put Devizes ahead in the first half, but Marlborough were back level before the interval thanks to a goal from Harry Womersley. There was to be no further goals in the second period as the two sides had to settle for a point apiece. The point for Devizes saw them move above Wroughton in the table on goal difference whilst Marlborough remained in 12th spot ahead of that trip to Salisbury in midweek. Devizes go again on Wednesday night when they travel to Odd Down Reserves.
