This week there were just four midweek fixtures in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League. The top match of the week was at Bremhill View on Tuesday night where second in the table Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development visited third placed Calne Town Reserves with just goal difference separating the two sides ahead of the game. Both were just three points below leaders Pewsey Vale and with both having a superior goal difference over the leaders a win for one or other would have sent them top of the table. In a high tempo entertaining encounter, it was visitors Royal Wootton Bassett Town who went ahead when a cross come shot from Ryan Withers found its way into the net. Calne's leading scorer Jamal Chevelleau got them back on level terms when his shot deceived the visitor’s keeper Simon Notman and ended up in the back of the net. The same player then put Calne in front with a volley for his 12th of the season to make it 2-1 to the home side. Calne held onto the lead for ten minutes, but the visitors got themselves back on level terms when Jon Beeden powerfully headed in from a corner to make it 2-2. The game continued to be played at a high level of intensity and despite chances at both ends it was to finish all square at 2-2 with both sides having to settle for a point and it was as you were in terms of positions in the league table as at the start of the evening.

There was also action on Tuesday night at The Raymond McEnhill Stadium where Marlborough Town made their first ever visit to the Salisbury FC ground to play an in-form young Salisbury FC Development side who had won four of their opening six games ahead of the fixture. Marlborough had made a decent start to the season and travelled to Salisbury having lost just once in their last five games, but they were never really in the game as Salisbury secured a comfortable fifth win of the season. Former Yeovil Town player Devon Arnold set them on their way with the opener on 12 minutes before Olugbenga Jubrill doubled Salisbury’s advantage. Marlborough pulled one back although there was a touch of fortune about it as a shot from outside the box was deflected into his own net by a Salisbury player. Dewi Sion Benham restored Salisbury’s two goal advantage when the ball was laid to him by Arnold, and he fired in from outside the box a minute from half time to make it 3-1 at the break. Salisbury effectively ended the game within a minute of the restart Arnold scoring his second of the game with no Marlborough player having touched the ball in the half before it found its way into their net. Will Waterson made it five getting on the end of a miscued shot from Arnold. On another good night for leading scorer Arnold he completed his hat-trick ten minutes from time to move onto 12 goals for the season but there was still time for one more goal, substitute Ed Timblerley coming off the bench to score his fifth of the season to complete a 7-1 win for Salisbury who climbed to seventh spot in the table.
The following night two sides who both lost on Saturday, Melksham Town Reserves and Frome Collegians, were looking to return to winning ways at the InfiLED Stadium. The sides had met three times in the league previously and once in the Fountain Trophies Cup and ahead of the game Frome had yet to taste victory, Melksham winning two of the league games and that cup fixture last season, the other league game ending in a draw. Frome certainly brought that record to an end on a good evening for the Somerset based side under the lights at the InfiLED. They led 2-0 early on but two goals from the experienced Luke Ballinger, recently returning to Melksham from Hellenic League side Corsham Town, brought Melksham back level. The first a shot from 25-yards the second from a free kick which deceived everybody and found its way into the Frome net. The second half belonged to Frome though as they hit three unanswered to goals to run out 5-2 winners on that night and secure that first ever win over Melksham. Lewis Perrett scored twice for Frome, further goals from George Holland and Barry Sandquest and an own goal completing the scoring. That is now three straight defeats for Melksham after a promising start to the season and Frome moved above them in the table as a result of their victory.
The final game in midweek, also on Wednesday, saw Odd Down Reserves host Devizes Town Reserves. Devizes had ended their losing run on Saturday with a useful point against Marlborough Town but found Odd Down in good form. Two goals from Angus Williamson, who moved onto four for the season, plus further goals from Charlie Saunders and Shaquile Perkins secured a 4-1 win for Odd Down who moved to within a point of Melksham Town Reserves. Devizes consolation goal was scored by Ben Tylee.
Wiltshire Senior Cup
The Wiltshire FA have this week made the draw for the Quarter Finals of the Wiltshire Senior Cup with three sides from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League still in the competition. After the draw, one of the three, Marlborough Town, are guaranteed a place in the last four having been given a bye following the error made by the County FA when making the First Round Draw, overlooking the fact that Corsham Town and Calne Town are now Step 5 following the FA's restructuring of the National League System and eligible for the Premier Shield.
