Two High Scoring Draws At The Top,
& First Win For Ludgershall Sports
On a miserable wet afternoon there were two high scoring draws at the top end of the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League, both games seeing sides come from 4-1 down to secure a point.

Second in the table Pewsey Vale who, after winning 20 games on the spin had lost their last two games, had another difficult looking trip away to Trowbridge Town this weekend. They fell behind early on, Trowbridge player manager Jamie Jordan firing in from 25 yards to give his side the lead. Pewsey responded well to this early set back though, Jake Force-Jones getting them back on level terms with a goal on his return to the side. Wes Britten then put Pewsey ahead for the first time in the game from a set piece, before young striker Harry Hoareau added a third after a long ball over the top found the youngster who rounded the keeper and tucked it away for his 13th of the season as the sides turned round with Pewsey 3-1 to the good. That became 4-1 shortly after the restart, Ryan Thomas firing in a half-volley after a headed clearance from a corner came to him. If the score had remained that way Pewsey would have returned to the top of the table, however Trowbridge continued to try and get themselves back in the game and were rewarded with a second goal of the game, Mark Robinson netting for the fourth time this season. After that it became something of the George Bendle show as he firstly reduced the deficit to just one goal, cutting in from the right-hand side of the box and firing into the far top corner of the net from just outside the box before he then got on the end of a flick from a corner to head Trowbridge level at 4-4. Eight goals and a thrilling comeback to entertain the fans on a wet afternoon. The draw meant Pewsey were unable to dislodge Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development, whose game was postponed, from top spot.

There was another entertaining game at the Flying Monk Ground where Corsham Town Development who started the day in fourth place in the table visited the side one place below them Malmesbury Victoria Development. Malmesbury came into the game as one of the form sides in the division having won their last four games scoring 26 goals in the process. Their last defeat had been at the hands of Corsham when they had gone down 4-2 at the Southbank Ground under the lights in midweek at the beginning of September and it looked very much like they would avenge that earlier defeat when they led 4-1 at the break with Corsham having been reduced to ten men. Kyle Witt had set Malmesbury on their way getting on the end of a cross from Joe Tranter with just five minutes on the clock. Two minutes later Tranter then went from provider to scorer making it 2-0 with his tenth goal of the season. A volley from Ciaran Lyon on 35 minutes extended Malmesbury’s lead further but Corsham got a foothold back in the game when they were awarded a penalty two minutes later which Will Stead put away for 3-1. Five minutes later it was Malmesbury who had a penalty with Corsham also being reduced to ten men. Harrison Archer put the spot kick away to make it 4-1 at the break. Despite their numerical disadvantage Corsham came out in the second half and took the game to Malmesbury. Adam Mitchell made it 4-2 on 62 minutes and when Lewis McCarron made it 4-3 just after the hour mark it was game on for the visitors. An equaliser six minutes from time from Max Wyatt completed the comeback for Corsham as it finished 4-4. The point for Corsham edged them closer to Calne Town Reserves and Malmesbury remain in fifth place on goal difference from Shrewton United.

Shrewton United moved level on points with Malmesbury Victoria Development with a comfortable 6-1 home win over Marlborough Town, completing a quickfire double over their opponents having beaten them 7-1 at Elcot Lane at the beginning of last month. Leading scorer Charlie Utterson led the way for the home side hitting a hat-trick to take his total for the season to nine. Christian Boothe netted his sixth of the campaign since joining from Amesbury and there were further goals from Connor Cutler and Aidan Beardsley, who both netted for the first time this season. Marlborough Town’s scorer was Josh De Souza.

Wroughton made it three straight wins on the bounce and four games unbeaten with a come from behind win against Devizes Town Reserves. Devizes went ahead on the half hour mark thanks to a goal from Nick Taylor and Devizes went into the half time break still leading. Wroughton got themselves back on level terms on the hour mark with a first of the season from Luke Saunders. The winning goal came 20 minutes from time, Joshua Barnfield scoring his seventh of the campaign to seal the points for the home side who moved above Marlborough Town in the table into 12th spot. Next up for Wroughton is a visit from Shrewton United whilst Devizes have a tough looking trip to Pewsey Vale.

Both Purton and Ludgershall Sports started the day looking for their first points of the season but with the two sides meeting at the Red House both had expectations of finally bringing their run of defeats to an end. After leading 2-0 away at Wroughton last week before then conceding four Ludgershall made sure there would be no repeat this week, coming away with all three points courtesy of a 4-1 win thanks to goals from Nathan Collins, Cameron Metcalfe, Kiefer Roper and Alexander Stout, Francesco Hunt with the consolation goal for Purton.

The games at Melksham Town Reserves and Stratton Juniors were both postponed due to the weather, with Melksham also suffering an issue with a loss of water to the dressing room area which meant the game would have had to be postponed even if the pitch had passed an inspection.

Both of the two Somerset based sides from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League made it safely through to the Third Round of the Somerset Senior Cup. Goals from Ross Knapton and an overhead kick winner from Pete Weston saw Frome Collegians go through at the expense of Somerset County League Division Three side Draycott. Odd Down Reserves were comfortable 4-0 winners over the current leaders of the Bristol & District League Senior Division Highridge United. There were two goals from Harley Prior and one apiece for Charlie Saunders and Angus Williamson.
