There were just two midweek games in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League and once again there were plenty of goals even though losing opponents were both in the top six ahead of the two games.
On Tuesday night Salisbury FC Dev continued their impressive midweek and home form with a comfortable 8-2 win over near neighbours Shrewton United. So far this season Salisbury have won all five games at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, and they have also won all their midweek games averaging close to eight goals a game in those midweek matches. They hit that eight figure in their latest midweek match against Shrewton with the damage being done in the first half. Leading scorer Devon Arnold set them on their way opening the scoring with just 13 minutes on the clock. Further goals from Joshua Wakefield and William Waterson put Salisbury 3-0 up with less than half-an-hour gone. There was no let up from the young Salisbury side as they doubled their advantage with three more first half goals, Owen Taylor scoring twice and Devon Arnold notching his second of the game. Shrewton pulled one back on the stroke of half time through their leading scorer Charlie Utterson. Utterson scored a second soon after the restart from the penalty spot, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished just before the hour mark when Arnold completed his hat-trick to take over at the top of the leading goal scorer chart in the division. There was to be one more goal on the night, Ed Timberley scoring his sixth of the season to make the final score 8-2 to Salisbury FC Dev who climbed two places up to fifth spot in the table with games in hand over the three sides immediately above them. Next up for Salisbury is a visit from Malmesbury Victoria Development whilst Shrewton have a weekend off.
The following night Malmesbury Victoria Development had the chance to move back above Salisbury when they entertained Odd Down Reserves who were making their first ever visit to the Flying Monk Ground. Malmesbury had been well beaten on Saturday by Trowbridge and it looked like they would be returning to winning ways when goals from Jack Tuckers and Dan Cole put them 2-0 to the good with just 15 minutes on the clock. However, the young Odd Down side responded well to going behind and took the game to Malmesbury, Brad Evans pulling one back around the half hour mark to make it 2-1 at the break. Shortly after the interval, Odd Down were back on level terms Evans scoring his second of the game. Last season Tom Ellis-Ricketts had been Odd Down Reserves standout performer which had seen him step up to their first team this season. On Wednesday night he made his first appearance of the season back in the Reserves and put his side ahead for the first time on the hour mark. A few minutes later Angus Williamson got in on the scoring act, netting for the sixth time this season to put his side 4-2 ahead and a second for Ellis-Ricketts 20 minutes from time rounded off an excellent second half performance from the visitors as they registered their fourth win of the campaign. Odd Down remain in 10th spot in the table but moved to within a point of Frome Collegians ahead of Saturday’s trip to Corsham Town Development. Malmesbury will look to regroup after two straight defeats with that difficult looking trip to Salisbury next up for them.
