Pewsey Win Again,
Corsham Town Dev Go Second

Pewsey Vale who extended their lead at the top with a 2-0 win away at Wroughton

Six games went ahead in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League this weekend with league leaders Pewsey Vale visiting an in-form Wroughton side who went into the game on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run. It was certainly an even contest for much of the first half, but Pewsey went in front on 19 minutes when the ball found its way to Harvey Flippance, who was making his debut for Pewsey having joined on loan from Melksham Town this week.  Having received the ball just inside the box he coolly fired a shot into the bottom of the net for 1-0 to Pewsey. Wroughton then went close to getting back on level terms almost immediately a ball down the right finding Ollie Armstrong whose clever chip beat Pewsey keeper Louie Latouche and appeared destined for the net but came back off the inside of the post and was cleared. Both sides created further chances in the opening forty-five, Josh Barnfield heading over from close range as Wroughton again went close to levelling matters up and Pewsey also created a couple of decent chances at the other end but it remained 1-0 at the break. Wroughton were very much in the game throughout as Pewsey were certainly made to work hard for the points, but they made sure of the victory fifteen minutes from time when James Turner knocked a ball over the top to Harvey Flippance who, one on one with the on rushing Wroughton keeper, lifted it over him first time for his second of the game. Pewsey saw out the last quarter of an hour safely to register their 14th win in 16 league games, opening up an eight-point gap at the top of the table. Wroughton's unbeaten run had finally come to an end but they will be back in action in midweek when they make the trip to Hellenic League side Malmesbury Victoria in the quarter final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

With Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s game against Devizes Town Reserves being postponed due to a lack of match officials, Corsham Town Development took full advantage to move ahead of them into second spot with a hard fought 3-2 win against Shrewton United thanks to goals from Ben Wickens, Jay Cant and Adam Mitchell. Shrewton’s cause was not helped by having a player sent off after ten minutes, but the ten men battled away for 80 minutes making the home side work hard for the points, Shrewton scoring through Christian Boothe and Robbie Mitchell.

When Trowbridge Town had met Malmesbury Victoria Development at Woodmarsh last month they had a secured an impressive 8-1 win against a Malmesbury side who were going well at the time but clearly found Trowbridge in untouchable form that day. Indeed, Trowbridge Town went into today's game as the in-form side in the division, unbeaten in their last eight games and having won all of their previous four and scoring plenty of goals as well.  That 8-1 result aside, games between the two teams in recent times have been close affairs and very much even in their outcome with three wins apiece and two draws in the previous eight meetings. Today’s game followed a similar pattern. Trowbridge went ahead through Scot Baker with his tenth goal of the season, but Connor Laidlaw equalised for Malmesbury as it finished honours even at one goal apiece, an impressive turnaround from Troy Prentice and Dave Sheppard’s Malmesbury side after that recent heavy defeat to the same opponents. Next up for Trowbridge is a tough looking trip to Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Tuesday night in the quarter final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup where Trowbridge will look to continue their giant killing exploits in the competition.

Scott Baker whose goal for Trowbridge Town took him into double figures for the season and Tom Hoskins who scored the goal for Melksham Town Res in their draw at Calne Town Res

Despite dropping points Trowbridge Town remained in fourth place as Calne Town Reserves were also held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Melksham Town Reserves, Tom Hoskins with the Melksham goal and Kassa Anderson with his tenth of the season for Calne.
Salisbury FC Development moved above Calne Town Reserves into fifth place after a win away at Stratton Juniors. Twice they trailed to goals from Moses Naisarani and twice Will Waterson brought them back on level terms, once just before half time and the second time just after the break. Two minutes after the second equaliser Layton Tulk put Salisbury ahead for the first time in the game before a fourth from Ed Timberley made sure of all three points for the South Wiltshire side as it finished 4-2.
The final game of the day was at Elcot Lane where Marlborough Town and Purton met for the third time this season and in an ill-tempered affair there were four players sent off from the visitors Purton, with one from Marlborough, following a mass brawl. In the end Marlborough Town ran out 7-1 winners to complete a treble of wins over Purton this season. All seven Marlborough goals were scored by Zach Symon who took his total for the season to 20, 15 of which have come in those three games against Purton. The consolation goal for Purton was scored by Jack Boyd-Cox.
The two Somerset based sides were involved in the third round of the Somerset Senior Cup. In midweek Frome Collegians and Radstock Town Reserves could not be separated at the end of 90 minutes, Pete Weston scoring for Frome as it finished 1-1 at the end of normal time. Radstock won the resulting penalty shoot out 3-0 to progress to the next round at Frome’s expense. It was a better outcome for the Wiltshire Senior League side in Odd Down Reserves encounter with Fry Club on Saturday, a fourth of the season from Brad Evans being the difference between the two sides as Odd Down won 1-0.
The league game between Frome Collegians and Ludgershall Sports scheduled for today was postponed with visitors Ludgershall unable to raise a side.
