A full programme of games this weekend saw all eight games won by the home side on what was certainly not a good afternoon for the defensive coaches at a number of clubs as a total of 64 goals were scored across the eight games. League leaders Pewsey Vale played in front of a sizeable crowd at the Recreation Ground as they held a reunion for former players as part of their game against Melksham Town Reserves. Alistair Tuttle’s side certainly did not disappoint the large crowd. Harvey Flippance put them ahead on 13 minutes against his former club and Pewsey controlled the game from thereon and a second from Flippance plus further goals from Rory England, Connor Marsden and Jake Force Jones secured a comfortable 5-0 win for the home side as they opened up a nine-point lead at the top of the table.

Corsham Town Development took full advantage of Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development’s inactivity to move above them into second place courtesy of a big 11-0 win over a struggling Purton side. There were hat-tricks for both Will Stead and Ben Wickens, Max Wyatt bagged a brace and there was one apiece for Adam Mitchell, Lewis McCarron and Jamal Chevelleau who has transferred back to Corsham from Calne Town Reserves.Corsham Town Development are now unbeaten in their last eight games and have won all of their last five to take over that second spot in the table. For Purton that is now over 100 goals conceded and they are still one ga me short of the halfway mark with their fixtures and will be thankful that next week possibly offers some respite with a home game against the other struggling side Devizes Town Reserves.

We were reliably informed this week that the distance from Trowbridge to Frome is nine miles and the distance between the two sides in today’s league fixture was just one short of being nine as Trowbridge finally picked up their first league win over Frome Collegians with an emphatic 9-1 win. Scott Baker led the way for Trowbridge firing a hat-trick to take his total for the season to 14, Mark Robinson bagged a brace with further goals coming from Jordan Pinder, George Bendle, George Walker-Wiltshire and an own goal. The Frome consolation goal was scored by Alex Pippard on his return to Woodmarsh after his recent transfer from Trowbridge. Trowbridge remain in fourth place in the table but move to within three points of Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development having played three games more than the side above them who they have yet to meet this season.
A depleted Shrewton United squad faced off against another depleted side, Ludgershall Sports who were not only missing players but also their manager and all his assistants. The opening was a cagey affair and neither side could really impose themselves on the game. It was visitors Ludgershall who took the lead following a good piece of interplay between the front three which saw Bradley Read free on the edge of the box and he slotted it past the Shrewton keeper for 1-0. Shrewton stepped up their game and were back on level terms just before the break when a corner fell 30 yards out to Cameron Wildman who hit it into the opposition net for his first goal of the season. The secod half saw Shrewton carried on where they had left off at the end of the first and put the Ludgershall defence under a lot of pressure. They went ahead for the first time in the game when Wildman, who was having a good game, made a powerful run down the right-hand side and put in a great cross that was met by Craig Lewis with a first-time finish on the volley into the roof of the net for 2-1. Shrewton extended their lead shortly afterwards, Lewis getting to the bi-line and his cross into the box was turned into his own net by a Ludgershall defender. Shrewton continued on the front foot and Cameron Wildman added a fourth, beating a defender inside the box and drilling the ball in at the near post off the Ludgershall keeper for his second of the game. Craig Lewis also notched a second to make it 5-1, beating two men and then cutting inside to again beat the keeper at his near post. There was still time for a late Ludgershall response, Ludgershall’s top scorer Luke Holden scoring a late consolation goal, for his fifth of the season, to make to the final score 5-2 to Shrewton.
There was an entertaining game at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground where Stratton Juniors were the visitors. When the two sides had met in Swindon at the beginning of September Odd Down had won 3-1 and they were looking to complete a league double this afternoon. Odd Down went in front on 25 minutes with a goal from Harley Prior but Cory Cullen brought visitors Stratton back into the game with an equaliser. Odd Down went back in front just after the hour mark, James Book scoring his first of the season to make it 2-1. Once again Stratton Juniors got themselves back in the game and once again it was Cory Cullen with the goal as he made it 2-2. The eventual winner came six minutes from time, Harley Prior notching his second of the game and his fourth of the season to secure the three points for Odd Down and make it three wins on the bounce in all competitions for James Riccio’s side. Odd Down moved up a place in the table to 11th place overtaking fellow Somerset based side Frome Collegians. For Stratton Juniors it was once again a narrow defeat, and they will be hoping for a change of luck next week when they entertain Marlborough Town at Meadowcroft.

Marlborough Town manager Steve Chadwick took his new side to the Flying Monk to play his former club Malmesbury Victoria hoping for the football to make the headlines after their difficult recent encounter with Purton. In an entertaining game, that required no cards to be shown by the officials, Marlborough went in front against the run of play thanks to a penalty which was duly converted by Dan Burke. However, home side Malmesbury were back on level terms by the break, Joe Liddington with his first goal of the season to make it 1-1. The start of the second half saw Malmesbury up their game and really take the game to the visitors, putting the Marlborough goal under sustained pressure. They were rewarded with two quick goals, George Evatt heading in after good work from Joe Tranter, and Tranter then went from provider to scorer to make it 3-1 to Malmesbury with his 12th of the season. A back post header from Jake Fortune rounded things off for Malmesbury as they ran out deserved 4-1 winners to move within a point of Salisbury FC Development.
Wroughton have certainly transformed their season in recent weeks and after an impressive 3-1 home win over Salisbury FC Development they have risen to tenth spot in the table, their highest position of the season. The win over Salisbury was their sixth win in their last eight league games. Once again it was an impressive first half performance that did the damage for Wroughton, captain Chris Flanagan firing them ahead from the penalty spot before Sam Long added a second to make it 2-0 at the break. Salisbury got themselves back into the game within a minute of the start of the second half, leading scorer Devon Arnold firing home a penalty for his 23rd of the campaign. There was to be no further goals for Salisbury though, and Ollie While made certain of the points for Wroughton fifteen minutes from time hitting a long-range effort past the Salisbury keeper to make it 3-1 to Wroughton. That is now back-to-back defeats for the young Salisbury side and five defeats on the road away from the Ray McEnhill Stadium and they will be hoping for a better outcome in their next away game when they make the relatively short trip to Ludgershall next week.

The final game of the afternoon saw Calne Town Reserves better their big win over Stratton Juniors earlier in the season with a 16-1 win over a Devizes Town Reserves side who were only able to start the game with eight players which soon became seven. The young Devizes side battled away despite the numerical disadvantage and were rewarded with a consolation goal from young Caleb Hollow with his second in the Premier Division to add to the ten he has scored for the Under 18s. The big win saw Calne take their total goal tally to the season to 75 in their 17 games to date. Rhys Talmash led the way for Calne with a double hat-trick, Kassa Anderson also bagged a hat-trick, Oscar Webster scored twice and the other scorers were Jack Coward, Keiron Gleed, Harrison Sartin, Jamie Walters and an own goal.
