Purton Celebrate Second
Win Of The Season

Baillie Nicholls who scored twice in Purton's 4-3 win at Ludgershall
This weekend’s round of fixtures in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League was almost wiped out by Storm Eunice with just the one game going ahead in the end. The game that did survive was the big match at the bottom end of the table between Ludgershall Sports
and bottom side Purton. Both sides had conceded double figure scores last weekend and were both eying this fixture as one where they could pick up some points. When the sides met at the Red House at the beginning of October Ludgershall were 4-1 winners and were aiming to complete a league double this weekend.
It turned out to be an entertaining encounter full of goals on a blustery afternoon decided by the finest of margins. Purton led 1-0 at half time thanks to a second of the season from Baillie Nicholls. They doubled their lead early in the second half, Melvin Tatah scoring his first of the campaign. Ludgershall fought back and got themselves back on level terms with two goals from Brad Read and Adam Campbell to make it 2-2. Purton’s Billy Miller then restored the visitors’ lead, Miller also notching for the first time this season. Baillie Nicholls extended his sides’ lead to give his side a two goal advantage with his second of the game to make it 4-2 but Ludgershall hit back again to make it 4-3, Adam Campbell scoring his second of the game. Purton then had a player sent to the sin bin and had to play the closing stages of the match with just ten men. Home side Ludgershall put the visitors under tremendous pressure in those closing stages as they went in search of an equaliser, but Purton dug deep and managed to hold on to secure three precious points in what has been a very difficult season for player-manager Frank Hunt and his side. Well done Purton on that second win of the season which sees them close the gap to second from bottom Devizes Town Reserves to four points.
