Following the successful establishment of the Over 35’s Veterans' Divisions, the Wiltshire Senior League opened up entries for an Over 45’s Division during the summer. There was some interest, but sadly not quite enough to establish a separate Division.
David Redfern, who was part of Bradford Town Vets management team last season has since been working behind the scenes to try and gain enough interest to start up an Over 45’s Division next season.
David has arranged a game for Bradford Town
Over 45’s against Chippenham Town
Over 45’s for Monday 14th November. Originally scheduled to be played at Westbury Utd, due to logistical issues, the game has now been switched to Melksham Town FC's Oakfield Stadium with a revised kick-off of 8:30PM, just after the conclusion of the Veterans' League game between Melksham Town and Trowbridge Town Tigers. A big thank you to Melksham Town FC for stepping in at the last moment to ensure the game can go ahead.
The Veterans Divisions have proved very popular with players who probably thought that their footballing days were behind them. Players are eligible as soon as they reach the age of 45. Games are played evenings mid week, are 25 minutes each way and a great way of keeping fit. They also provide the opportunity to meet up with players that you may have played with or against a few years ago and to catch up over a drink after the game.
If you’d like to see the first Over 45’s game, please get along to Melksham Town on the 14th November, the bar will be open and refreshments available.
If you’re unable to attend, but are interested in either entering a team or playing for a team, please contact the League Secretary, Jim Thorn at jim.thorn@wiltshireseniorleague.co.uk or telephone 07860 520046.
