With Monday being a Bank Holiday for the New Year celebrations just the one game was scheduled in the Veterans’ this week with the Second Round of the Veterans’ League Cup kicking off 2023’s action. The game involved Royal Wootton Bassett Town and AFC Swindon at the Gerard Buxton Ground. When they had met in the league back in November Royal Wootton Bassett had hit seven unanswered goals and they had another comfortable evening on Wednesday as two goals from Mark Simpkins plus further goals from Jonathan Davis, Brady Lilley and a first of the season from Ben Gould secured a 5-0 win and a quarter final place for Royal Wootton Bassett Town. Next up for them is another quarter final this coming Monday, this time in the Wiltshire FA Veterans’ County Cup, when they take on Mid Wiltshire Division side FC Calne in the one outstanding tie to see who joins Melksham Town, holders Bradford Town and Blunsdon in the last four of the Wiltshire FA County competition.

The scheduled league game in the North Wiltshire Division between AFC Swindon and Stratton Juniors Black in the week between Christmas and the New Year was postponed with Stratton Juniors unable to raise a side.
Next week is set to be dominated by cup action with four more fixtures in the Veterans’ League Cup in addition to that County Cup game.
