Whilst the rain that has had a massive negative impact on fixtures in recent weeks continued to fall, the three games postponed in the Veterans’ divisions last week were all due to teams being unable to field a side. In the end just four games went ahead, two in each division.
In the Mid Wiltshire Division on Monday night league leaders Melksham Town
increased their lead at the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 win against Chippenham Town
at Green Lane thanks to an early goal from Lee Morgan.
The following night that lead at the top of the table was reduced to just two points when Bradford Town
picked up a big win away against Amesbury Junior Badgers. Badgers were playing their final game of the season and became the third side to complete their fixtures. It was not to be a happy ending for them though as they conceded a double figure score for the fifth time this season, Bradford Town hitting 11 unanswered goals. Both Mark Robinson and Michael Little scored four, David Percival bagged a brace, and the other goal was scored by Adam Pugsley. Both Bradford Town and Melksham Town have four league games to go, including a game between the two sides, and with Corsham Town still in the mix the title race could very well go down to the final week of the season.
The two games played in the North Wiltshire Division this week both ended in draws. On Tuesday night at New College Chiseldon
and Swindon Old Boys
shared the points following a 1-1 draw, Paul Stonehouse with the goal for Swindon Old Boys, Shaun Smith with the Chiseldon goal. The point for Chiseldon saw them temporarily move up to third spot in the table.
The following night, Swindon Rovers
and Royal Wootton Bassett Town
met at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. Royal Wootton Bassett Town really needed a win in their battle for the league title with Cricklade Town and Redhouse and will view the 2-2 draw with Rovers as two points dropped rather than one point gained. The goals for Royal Wootton Bassett Town were scored by Steve Howse and Ben Gould, Andrew Mark and Tim Hughes with the Swindon Rovers goals.
