Odd Down Reserves made their first appearance in the Fountain Trophies Senior Cup and are the early leaders in the South Group on goal difference after a 5-0 win over Ludgershall Sports. A good first half showing on a warm afternoon saw the young Odd Down side leading 3-0 at the break thanks to goals from Tom Ricketts, Aidan Maslen and Dan Taylor. A spirited Ludgershall side continued to battle away in the second half but further goals from Josh Swift and Charlie Saunders completed a good afternoon’s work for Odd Down, who also gave a run out for the experienced management duo of James Riccio and Terry Wade. Odd Down are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Frome Collegians.

On the subject of Frome Collegians, they bounced back after last week’s defeat to local rivals Trowbridge Town with their first ever win over Shrewton United at the fourth time of asking. Leading scorer Jake Wright had been absent in their defeat against Trowbridge but returned against Shrewton and did the damage for Frome in a 3-0 win, scoring twice taking his total for the season to 16. The other Frome goal was scored by Lewis Perrett as Frome moved level on three points with today’s opponents, as well as three other sides.

Corsham Town Reserves are also now on three points after defeating a Trowbridge Town side who had been so impressive in that win over Frome last week. Corsham fully deserved their cup win, avenging the defeat they had suffered in the league back in October against Trowbridge. They went in front thanks to an own goal and extended their lead when Adam Shipman scored his fourth of the season to make it 2-0 to the visitors at the break. Jake Dodge added a third for Corsham in the second half as they ran out 3-0 winners.

The South Group is already looking like it could be any one of the sides that emerges as the winner with just Odd Down and Corsham Town Res unbeaten of the seven sides after the first six fixtures in the Group.

Whilst the South Group is up and running nicely the same cannot really be said of the North Group. Saturday’s encounter between Malmesbury Victory Dev and Devizes Town was the first game of the four games played so far where the result stands due to issues with ineligible players. With postponed games as well in the first two weeks, it has been a very frustrating start to the competition in the North Group for all involved. With Marlborough Town and Purton also now confirming their withdrawal from the competition, the games involving these two sides will be awarded to their scheduled opponents.

In the game that did go ahead on Saturday, Devizes Town Reserves continued their recent good form with a 3-1 victory over Malmesbury Victoria Development in a game switched to Devizes thanks to excellent co-operation between the two clubs, with Malmesbury Victoria first team playing at home in the Hellenic Bluefin Cup. Devizes went ahead thanks to a goal from Liam Mortimer, a mistake at the back by Malmesbury, allowed the ball to be crossed in for a simple tap in for Mortimer. Devizes then extended their lead with a well taken goal from Richard Tandy, who volleyed in after fellow strike partner Logan Cassidy had chested the ball into his path. Joe Tranter pulled one back for Malmesbury with his seventh of the season but there was to be no comeback for Malmesbury as Logan Cassidy, having earlier set up that second goal, then made sure of all three points for Devizes Town when he got on the end of a good flowing move to make the final score 3-1 in Devizes favour.
