Just three games in the Veterans’ Divisions this week with all three being in the Mid Wiltshire Division. Both the two sides at the top of the table were in action and both continued their quest to lift the league title.
On Monday night VFC Devizes met bottom of the table Chippenham Town Yard Dogs who came into the game with added confidence on the back of their first win of the season last week. However, there was to be no repeat victory for the Yard Dogs as three first half goals effectively wrapped the game up in the first half for Devizes. Two goals from Nick Oram, who moved on to 18 for the season, and an early strike from Scott Sartin gave VFC Devizes that 3-0 lead. Devizes did not add to their score after the break and Neil Edwards replied for the Yard Dogs with a late consolation goal from the penalty spot, his fifth goal of the campaign. The win saw VFC Devizes move top of the league at least overnight, but with title rivals Corsham scheduled to play their game the following night.
Monday night also saw FC Calne’s recent good form continue as they made it three wins on the bounce with a 2-1 success away at Bradford Town. Goals from leading scorer Dan Allison and Neurin Jones did the damage for FC Calne, Nicholas Ross with the reply for Bradford Town.
The one game on Tuesday night saw Corsham Town travel to Bradford-on-Avon to meet St Andrews looking to regain that top spot from Devizes. When the two sides had met last month Corsham had hit five unanswered goals to take the three points and, in an early kick-off to enable the players to watch the England game, Corsham once again kept a clean sheet whilst scoring four to return to the summit, ahead of Devizes on goal difference. Corsham led 3-0 at the break but took their foot off the gas second half adding just the one but the four goals now gives Corsham a 12 goal better goal difference than Devizes with three games to go. On target for Corsham in their latest win against St Andrews were James Lye (2), Lee Burns and David Lloyd. The top two sides are set to meet in what is very much looking like a title decider in the first week of July. Before that though Corsham have to play an in-form FC Calne next Wednesday.
There were no games this week in the North Division.
