Cup Hopes

There were three Under 18 games this week, two in the Cup and one in the league. The league match was on Monday night at AFC Aldermaston where the two sides competing for fourth place in the table were up against each other with Radstock Town the visitors. AFC Aldermaston were playing their final league game of the season and knew that a win would guarantee them that fourth place finish with a point separating the two sides at the start of play. They went in front through a Tommy Barnard goal, his first of the season, Barnard heading in at the far post from a Ben Luckett free kick. However, Radstock Town equalised to ensure it remained as you were in terms of the league standings but now with Radstock Town knowing that a win in their final game against Pewsey Vale would secure them that fourth spot.

Ironically Radstock Town were playing Pewsey Vale in Group B of the Cup competition on Thursday night and a late goal from Ben Hayward, his third of the season, secured a 1-0 win for Pewsey putting a serious dent in Radstock’s chances of making the final. However, it will still come down to the two matches between Radstock Town and Devizes Town to see who makes it through to play AFC Aldermaston in the final. Aldermaston will be hoping that Pewsey can repeat Thursday night’s win when they play in the league game between Radstock and Pewsey on 12th May.

In Group A of the Cup competition two sides simply playing for pride with the finalist already decided were New College Swindon and Calne Town. The game served up five goals and the first cup points for New College in the competition. On target for New College were Obinna Nwoke, Lewis Newcombe and an own goal, Leo Bounds and an eleventh goal of the season from Harrison Dunsden replying for Calne. Calne have now completed their fixtures for the season, whilst New College have one more to go against Royal Wootton Bassett Town.
