After a busy night of action, which saw six games played, there is no change at the top of the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League as all of the top three sides won tonight. League leaders Devizes Town had what looked a tricky away fixture at Wroughton. Title rivals Trowbridge Town had been defeated on their trip to the Weir Field but there was to be no repeat this evening as Devizes secured a 3-1 away win with a couple of late goals to retain leadership of the division. They had gone in front when Jack Coward headed home from a Kerion Gleed corner. Wroughton though hit straight back from the kick off when Jonathan Peachey-Score broke the offside trap and fired home to level. A lively second half saw both sides miss chances with Wroughton going close when Aaron Maximen curled a shot onto the post. As has been the case on a number of occasions this season, Devizes found a way through late on to secure the win, Jordan Kirk firing home before Gleed scored with a superb free-kick in the dying seconds to ensure Devizes returned home with all three points. Title rivals Trowbridge Town were home to Odd Down (Bath) Development and were made to work hard for the points. The home side took the lead on the half hour mark, James Rustell with the goal following a Trowbridge corner. Visitors Odd Down pulled one back on the stroke of half time through Andy Keen but two second half goals from Martin Johnson ensured that Trowbridge remain just two points behind Devizes with a game in hand.
Third placed Pewsey Vale were away at bottom of the table Stratton Juniors and fell behind to a Corey Cullen penalty. Although Pewsey got themselves back on level terms, a further goal from Cullen plus one from Connor Taylor-Harrison saw them trail 3-1. Pewsey did manage to pull one back before half time to go into the break 3-2 down. Whatever the management team said to the Pewsey players at half time certainly did the trick as three unanswered second half goals saw Pewsey come away with all three points. On target for Pewsey were Andy Rossiter with two, Stanley Paggett, James Guthrie and Ryan Banks.
Calne Town Reserves were playing their penultimate game of the season when they entertained Frome Collegians tonight. A win for Calne would have seen them climb above tonight’s opponents but a second half goal from Frome’s leading marksman Jack Newman, after good work from Max Biddiscombe ,saw the visitors return home with all three points. The defeat for Calne means they will have to settle for a top finish in eighth place in what has been a good season for Tom Boakes young side.
Malmesbury Victoria Development have had issues with their pitch and the wet weather this winter and have a number of games still to play in a busy run in. Back on home turf for the first time in a month they put in an excellent performance to register their biggest win of the season against an out-of-sorts Kintbury Rangers. Harrison Archer put them ahead from a Sam Jenner free kick and it was another set piece that extended their lead, Sam Parker getting on the end of a James Archer corner to head powerfully home to make it 2-0 at the break. Harrison Archer then increased the lead further with his second of the game five minutes after the restart and the home side rounded off the scoring with a fourth goal two minutes from time, Reuban Badman hitting a powerful shot into the net from distance to make the final score 4-0 to Malmesbury.
The final game of the night was at the bottom end of the table with Shrewton United making the short trip into the city to play Salisbury FC Development. When the two sides had met earlier in the season, Salisbury had hammered Shrewton 9-0 on their own ground, but Shrewton are a much improved side of late and two goals from Sam Webb saw them complete an impressive 2-0 win in a remarkable turnaround from that game earlier in the season. The win for Shrewton saw them climb out of the bottom three at the expense of Odd Down (Bath) Development who now join Stratton Juniors and Marlborough Town in the bottom three places..
