There were five games played this week in the Mid Wiltshire Veterans’ Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League and three teams made it two wins from their opening two games. One of those is new side Durrington who were narrow 2-1 winners against Radstock Town who were playing their first game of the season. Former Shrewton United player and manager Jesse Walters scored one of the Durrington goals with Ian Bateman also on the score sheet. The Radstock goal was scored by Sean Snook.
Joining Durrington on six points at the top of the table are Westbury United who were comfortable 5-0 winners over Amesbury Junior Badgers. Wayne Wheeler bagged a brace and there was one apiece for Paul Beavers, Russell Dyer and Dale Rowland.
The third team on six points are last season’s runners-up Melksham Town who were made to work hard for all three points by Devizes Town at Nursteed Road on Thursday night. In the end goals from James Taylor and Luke Ballinger were enough to get Melksham the win, Robbie Mitchell getting the Devizes goal as it finished 2-1 to Melksham. David Giles was there again with his camera and his excellent photos from the game can be found on the League’s Facebook Group page.

Warminster Town are the second new team in the division this season and they got their campaign off to a winning start with a 3-0 success over Calne Town thanks to goals from Shaun Sheppard, James Vincent and Carl Clarke.
The final game of the week in the Mid Wiltshire Division saw Trowbridge Town Tigers and Chippenham Town share four goals and the points in a game played on grass at Woodmarsh. Darren Citty put visitors Chippenham 1-0 up, but Dan Peters equalised for the Tigers. Chippenham regained their lead before the break thanks to a second goal from Phillip Baker. Clifford Sakyi has been Trowbridge Town Tigers top scorer in each and every season they have been playing Veterans’ football and he got off the mark for the 23-24 season with an equaliser for the Tigers in the second half as it finished 2-2.
There was a programme of five games scheduled in the North Wiltshire Division but unfortunately just three of the games went ahead with the other two awarded to opponents as Blunsdon and Chiseldon were unable to raise a side for their respective games against Redhouse and Cricklade Town. With an enlarged division and a shortage of facilities to utilse, a zero tolerance is being applied this season in the Veterans’ division where teams are unable to raise a side, with games awarded as well as the application of a fine in accordance with league rules.
After finishing bottom for three consecutive seasons and then second from bottom last season AFC Swindon have made a great start to the new season and currently sit top of the table after their opening two fixtures. On Tuesday they were involved in an entertaining affair with Swindon Old Boys which in the end was settled in AFC Swindon’s favour by the odd goal in five. On target for Swindon Old Boys were Joe Anderson and Barry Dickens but two goals from Andy Hendry and one from Gareth Walton sent AFC Swindon to the top. It certainly looks like it could be a much better season for Christian Kostiuk’s side.
There were also plenty of goals in the other two games. On the grass at Meadowcroft, Stratton Juniors and Swindon Rovers shared the points following a 3-3 draw. Star of the show for Stratton Juniors was Vince McMackin who hit a hat-trick with Andrew Mark (2) and Dean Mason replying for Rovers.
The final game of the week on Wednesday night at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground was a one-sided affair with new side Coate smashing eleven unanswered goals past another of the new sides, Nomads. It was a particularly good night for Paul Stonehouse who hit seven of the Coate goals, Pete Sealey bagged a brace and further goals from Adam Rudman and Antony Quant completed the rout.
