Premier Division
A busy night of action on Tuesday evening in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League with eight games being played.
What looked to be the top match of the night was the game between Pewsey Vale and Trowbridge Town, who both won their opening games on Saturday, but it turned out to be a very one-sided affair with Pewsey hitting seven unanswered goals to make it two wins from two to open the season. Pewsey had the better of the opening 20 minutes and went in front after recent signing from Letcombe Josh Fowler dispossessed a Trowbridge defender in his own half and outpaced the defence down the left. His shot at the end of his run produced a fine save from Cameron Miller, but the ball fell right at the feet of a Brandon Vincent following up but his shot from point blank range was again well saved by the Trowbridge keeper. However, unfortunately for Trowbridge this time it fell nicely to James Guthrie who was following up and who made no mistake to add to the three goals he scored on Saturday. Pewsey then doubled their lead within a minute with an almost identical goal. Trowbridge again conceded possession in their own half straight from the kick-off to Rory England. The Pewsey youngster played a neat one two to get behind the Trowbridge back line, but his low powerful shot was saved by Miller but again he could only the parry the ball straight to Vincent and this time the Pewsey striker made no mistake to double his sides lead. Pewsey continued to press forward and just before the half hour mark a powerful shot from Fowler was well saved by Miller. Next up the influential Rory England had a shot from distance for Pewsey that went just over. It wasn’t all one-way traffic though George Bendle had a shot saved by Louie Latouche and there was then a moment of controversy just before half time. Following a Trowbridge corner the ball was initially cleared but a powerful shot back in struck a Pewsey player with appeals for handball, which were waved away by the referee. Pewsey then broke down the right-hand side through Fowler and he out paced the Trowbridge defence before cutting inside and then hitting a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the net for 3-0. Trowbridge had Josh Howlett sent to the sin-bin for disputing the non-award of the alleged handball which meant they would play the first nine minutes of the second half a man short.

Despite starting the half a man down, Trowbridge made a good start to the second half and had the better of the early exchanges. Three minutes in a header from Jake Samuel was saved by Latouche in the Pewsey goal with his feet and the follow up header from George Bendle was again saved and then cleared by his defence. Trowbridge had another great chance when keeper Latouche game rushing out to challenge Bendle but failed to clear, but the danger was averted by a great sliding tackle. Having survived the opening period when a man down without conceding Trowbridge continued to push to try and get a foothold back in the game. Twenty minutes from time Trowbridge had another good chance a ball into the box was met on the volley by Samuel but his effort went well over, and it remained 3-0. Having taken their foot off the gas Pewsey started to up their game again and they put the game beyond their opponents 15 minutes from time when another run down the left by Fowler was followed by a low powerful shot which was again only parried out by keeper Miller, this time into the path of Rory England who fired in for 4-0. It went from bad to worse for Trowbridge eight minutes from time a fine individual goal from England who picked the ball up in his own half beat two Trowbridge defenders and then cooly picked his spot to shoot past Miller for 5-0 to Pewsey. Almost straight away from the kick-off Trowbridge conceded possession in their own half and a defence splitting pass saw Fowler in the clear and he stroked the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 6-0 within a minute of that fifth goal. That was not to be the end of Trowbridge’s miserable evening as they conceded again in injury time, a ball into the box from England was met on the volley by substitute Jake Collis to make the final score 7-0 and send Pewsey top of the early league table.
Another side to hit seven goals on Tuesday night and also record their second straight win were Ben Jarrett’s Wroughton side. On Saturday Jonathan Peachey-Score had scored a hat-trick at Shrewton United and on Tuesday night he went one better netting four times in Wroughton’s 7-2 win over Malmesbury Vics Development. Aaron Maximen also scored for the second game running with further Wroughton goals coming through Luigi Hernandez and Alex Hammond, Lewis King and substitute Edward Greenouff with the consolation goals for Malmesbury. Letcombe also made it two wins from their opening two games with a comfortable 3-0 win over near neighbours Faringdon Town. They went in front on 25 minutes a long clearance from keeper Harry Whitehead was misjudged by his opposite number Jack Gibson in the Faringdon goal, Letcombe winger Xavi Diaz reacted quickest and his cross into the area was met by Ben Cleary who headed in for 1-0. Faringdon fell further behind ten minutes before the break, Josh Forth losing control in his own box giving Keiran Kerby a simple tap in for his third goal of the week. It remained 2-0 at the break. Any chance of Faringdon getting back into the game was effectively ended two minutes after the restart, Diaz capitalising on another error from Faringdon and running at the visitor’s defence before firing past Gibson for 3-0. Two games, two wins and two clean sheets for Letcombe as they make a great start to their time in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League.

Park United got their tenure in the Premier Division off to a winning start with a 5-1 away win at Calne Town Reserves. Ben Pring led the way for Park, bagging a brace, with further goals coming from Lewis McCarron, Zac Hillier and Jamie Norman, Jack Smith with the consolation goal for Calne.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town bounced back from their opening day defeat away at Pewsey with an impressive 4-0 home win over Blunsdon on the 3G at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. They took the lead when a first time Mani Mesas ball into the box was turned in by Dale Richards on his returned from a couple of seasons at Malmesbury Vics. They went close to extending their lead when a Ben Spackman cross was headed onto the crossbar and then when a curling effort from Flynn Walters drew a great save from the Blunsdon keeper Luke Kuczynski. The home side were not to be denied though, Richards fed Walters who hit a superb dipping shot into the top corner of the net giving Kuczynski no chance to make it 2-0 at half time to Royal Wootton Bassett Town. The home side went close to extending their lead further in the second half when Walters hit the crossbar with another effort cutting in from the left. It was not all one-way traffic though and Blunsdon had claims for a penalty midway through the half when a player went down in the box, but these were waved away by the referee. The home side eventually extended their lead further in somewhat fortuitous circumstances, a cross from the right from George Lance deceiving the Blunsdon keeper and ending up in the back of the net for 3-0. Flynn Walters then rounded off an impressive man of the match performance with another superb strike into the roof of the net from the edge of the box to make the final score 4-0 as Mark Simpkins’ side picked up their first points of the season. Bemerton Heath Harlequins opened their campaign in the Premier Division with a short trip up the road to take on near neighbours Salisbury Development. It was to be a winning start for Bemerton as goals from Liam Greenough and Joshua Hoey secured a 2-0 win over the young Salisbury side.
Shrewton United bounced back from their opening day defeat at the hands of Wroughton with a comfortable 3-0 win over Larkhall Athletic Development. Shrewton went in front ten minutes before the break, a long clearance from keeper Sam Gates found Charlie Jackson who lobbed the Larkhall keeper to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break. Shrewton then doubled their lead on the hour mark, a cross from Cameron Wildman was laid back by Sam Mortimer to Lewis Cross who netted for his third of goal of the season. It remained 2-0 until the last minute of the match when substitute Aidan Beardsley was put through one-on-one with the keeper and he made no mistake to make the final score 3-0 to Shrewton avenging the two defeats they suffered at the hands of Larkhall at the back-end of last season.

Last season’s runners up Kintbury Rangers had been very disappointed when Larkhall Athletic cried off against them on Saturday but finally got their season up and running on Tuesday night when they entertained Shrivenham. It was to prove to be a tight affair from start to finish and with neither side able to make a breakthrough and the two teams had to settle for a point apiece.
The following night the two remaining sides, Melksham Town Reserves and Kingsdown, were in action at the Oakfield Stadium. Both teams went into the game on the back of 3-1 wins on Saturday looking to preserve their 100% winning start to the season. That honour was to go to Melksham as a hat-trick from Elliot Haffenden and a second of the season from Sam Whitehead secured a 4-2 win for Justin Flowers side. Antonio Gerrish and Ollie While with the Kingsdown goals.

There was just one game in midweek in Division One with the game between Kintbury Rangers Development and Cricklade Town brought forward with the two teams having requested not to have a game on Saturday 17th August. Both teams had secured big wins on Saturday scoring eight and seven goals respectively and were looking to make it two wins from two. It was to prove to be an entertaining affair. Despite Kintbury matching their experienced opponents in terms of possession and chances in the first half they found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break to goals from Josh Parsons and Levi Cox. However, goals from Jamie Wallin and an equaliser from Harry Murtagh nine minutes from time brought them back on level terms. On a number of occasions last season Kintbury had fallen to last minute winners and it was to be another such occasion on Monday night, Billy Aldrich scoring for the visitors in the final minute to give Cricklade Town all three points and early leadership of the division.
