With it being half term week there were just two games played in the league last week. On Monday night Radstock Town maintained their perfect start to the league season with a fourth straight victory, winning 6-1 away against Bishops Cannings. That is also the second successive game that they have registered a six goal score and they are already the division’s leading scorers even though they have games in hand over the two sides above them in the table.
The other game played was the rearranged game postponed at the beginning of September due to a waterlogged pitch and it involved two sides at the bottom of the table, Melksham Town and Amesbury Town, who were still looking for their first win of the season. It was to prove to be an enjoyable Thursday evening for Amesbury as it was they who registered that first win of the season scoring five unanswered goals to run out 5-0 winners to move out of the bottom two positions in the table.
On Sunday all three teams left in the Wiltshire Youth Cup won their Third Round games to progress to the Quarter Final of the competition. Amesbury Town overcame near neighbours Laverstock & Ford 3-2, whilst both Calne Town and FC Chippenham easily overcame opponents for the North Wilts Youth League. Calne Town were 8-2 winners at home against Croft Junior Blue, whilst FC Chippenham won 7-1 against Lydiard Millicent Juniors.
The Wiltshire FA have already made the draw for the Quarter Final ties and two of our three sides will meet each other with Amesbury Town set to entertain FC Chippenham, whilst Calne Town have been drawn away to Salisbury U18 with the ties set take place on Sunday 1st December. The other two Quarter Final ties see Highworth Town play Trowbridge Town and Ferndale Rodbourne are home to Salisbury U17.
Please note that there will no longer be the usual roundups of games, pictures nor list of leading goal scorers in the Under 18 Division this coming season by order of the FA. If this is causing disappointment with your players, who we know like to see their goal scoring exploits publicised, please take the matter up with the Wilts FA as we are just doing as we have been told. We have given them are strong views on the matter.
