All but one of the scheduled games were played last week in the Under 18 Floodlight Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League. It was to prove to be a good week for the league leaders Swindon Supermarine and also the two sides with 100% winning records, FC Chippenham and Radstock Town, as all three won their games.
The action got underway on Monday night at Green Lane with Bishops Cannings picking up their fifth win of the season, a 3-1 win over the improving young Westbury United side. When the sides had met earlier in the season Bishops Cannings had won 9-0 and Monday’s result shows what improvements the Westbury side, many of whom will be eligible to play in the league again next season, have made as the season has progressed.
Thursday night saw Radstock Town maintain their 100% winning record in the league with a 3-0 home win over Devizes Town to make it six wins from six games. The win for Radstock saw them move level on points with Devizes although Devizes have played five more games.
The same night Swindon Supermarine ensured they would have sole ownership of top spot for at least another week with a narrow 1-0 win over Kintbury Rangers, the only goal of the game coming a minute into the second half. The win for Supermarine meant they had completed a league double over Kintbury having won 3-0 at Kintbury back in September and opened up a six-point lead at the top of the table, for 24 hours at least.
Supermarine’s lead at the top was reduced to just three points the following night when FC Chippenham made it seven wins in seven games with a 5-0 victory over Amesbury Town, avenging a penalty shoot out to the same opponents on Sunday in the Wiltshire County FA, this after the cup game had finished all square at 4-4. The league win on Friday night meant FC Chippenham completed a league double over their beaten opponents having won 8-0 in the first league meeting between the two teams back in September.
By now all teams should have played everybody at least once but with both Radstock Town and FC Chippenham now behind with their fixtures an additional fixture has been inserted between the two teams on Thursday, with both also playing on Monday night in what is going to be a busy week in the Under 18 Division.
Please note that there will no longer be the usual roundups of games, pictures nor list of leading goal scorers in the Under 18 Division this coming season by order of the FA. If this is causing disappointment with your players, who we know like to see their goal scoring exploits publicised, please take the matter up with the Wilts FA as we are just doing as we have been told.
