Premier Division

It was a relatively busy midweek in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League with three games in both the Premier Division and Division One. In the Premier Division the action got underway on Tuesday night when Calne Town Reserves took on cup finalists Bemerton Heath Harlequins Reserves at Bremhill View. It was to be Calne’s night as they bounced back from Saturday’s home defeat to Shrewton with an excellent performance to take all three points following a 3-2 win. On target for Calne were Lewis Royston, Ryan Flynn and Owen Jones, Ethan Trigwell and Archie Downes with the two Bemerton goals.

Bemerton's Tony Smith was at the game with his camera and more of his excellent pictures can be found on his website at efc.smugmug.com

The following night saw two games played with Letcombe, having secured runners-up spot on Saturday, away at in-form Larkhall Athletic Development. Larkhall have been on a tremendous run in the second half of the season that had seen them secure their safety with games to spare after looking in deep trouble at the turn of the year. A long unbeaten run in the league had been finally ended on Saturday away at Kingsdown and Larkhall were looking to bounce back and end their season on a winning note. It started well for the home side Eddy Pope firing them in front. Billy Tulloch brought Letcombe back level with a well taken volleyed goal, but the league runners-up would go into the half time break trailing as James Horrocks restored the Larkhall’s lead with a goal following a quick counterattack. Arlo Stone extended Larkhall’s lead after the break with what proved to be the only goal of the half. Letcombe would end the game with just nine men as Tulloch was shown a red card and another Letcombe player was sent to the sin bin. The victory for Larkhall saw them end their season with a win as they became the second side in the division to complete their league fixtures.

The second of the two games played on Wednesday night was at the Flying Monk where Shrivenham were the visitors. After two wins on the bounce Malmesbury Victoria Development were looking to maintain that winning run against a side who still have their eyes on a top five finish at the end of the season. It would be the home side Malmesbury who got themselves in front, Sam Partker breaking the deadlock on 27 minutes. However, the visitors turned things around as goals from Brad Hirst and Ollie Matthews saw Shrivenham take all three points to climb two places in the table to seventh spot, just two points behind fifth placed Shrewton United with both teams having two games to play.

Division One

There were also three games played in Division One in midweek with both Bratton and Kintbury Rangers Development having a busy week with two games after their postponed game on Saturday was hastily re-arranged by the two clubs. A big thank you to both clubs for co-operating to get the game re-arranged so quickly. Before that game on Thursday both sides were involved in fixtures earlier in the week. On Monday night Bratton travelled to Bradford Town Reserves and returned home with all three points following a hard fought come from behind 2-1 win. A goal from Harry Ledbury had seen Bradford Town Reserves lead at the break but second half goals from Kye Teague and Joe Edwards turned things around to give Bratton the victory.

The following night Kintbury Rangers Development were home to promotion chasing Down Ampney and they were to inflict a blow to Down Ampney’s chances of honours this season as they avenged the 6-0 defeat they had suffered at Down Ampney just ten days earlier. On target for Kintbury in a 3-2 win were Cameron Hoyle, Max Davies and Charlie Allsop, Paddy Cripps and Connor Hibbs with the two goals for Down Ampney.

Kintbury Rangers Development were back in action just two days later with that away game at Bratton. With Bratton dominating the first half and leading 3-1 at the break thanks to two goals from Kye Teague and one from Matt Mead, a second win of the week for Bratton looked on the cards, Marius Tataru with the Kintbury first half goal. However, Kintbury Rangers turned things around in the second half, two goals from Charlie Allsop, taking his total for the season to 15, plus one from Olli Denner seeing them come back to take the points courtesy of a 4-3 win in a game that could easily have seen a lot more goals. The win for Kintbury saw them move above Lambourn Sports and into seventh place in the table.
