Frome Collegians were celebrating their first points of the season in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League on Tuesday night as they came out on top in their first derby fixture against Trowbridge Town, who have now lost two on the bounce after seeing their unbeaten run end on Saturday. It was a come from behind victory as well for Frome as Jacob Sainsbury had put Trowbridge in front in the first half and the home side led 1-0 at the break. Frome got back on level terms when Laurence Ludgate scored with a header. Barry Sandquest then fired in the winner, getting on the end of a through ball from Matt March, to give them the local bragging rights over their near neighbours from up the A361. Frome moved up a place in the table as a result of the win whilst Trowbridge dropped to 7th spot.
Wroughton maintained their 100% record but were pushed all the way by another new side, Stratton Juniors, who put in their best performance of the season so far and went close to registering their first points of the season against the reigning champions. All three new sides are clearly now finding their feet after a few games and it shouldn’t be long before Stratton also pick up their first win of the season if they can continue to perform as they did on Tuesday night. Wroughton’s goals were scored by Jordan Lea and Tom Price in their 2-1 win.

The third new side in the league, Holt, lost their unbeaten record when they went down 2-0 at home to much fancied Shrewton United, but once again Holt pushed one of the title favourites all the way. Two goals from striker Saul Johnson secured the points for the visitors, taking Shrewton’s new signing to five for the season. Shrewton stay third after their latest win.
League leaders Kintbury led 1-0 at the break at home to Marlborough Town courtesy of a Harry Way goal midway through the half. In the end that solitary strike from Way, his third of the season, was all that separated the two sides at the end of 90 minutes as neither side was able to find the net in the second half. Marlborough pushed hard for the equaliser but were unable to find the net as Kintbury maintained their 100% start to the season.
Purton stayed in touch with the league leaders with a 2-0 away win at Malmesbury Victoria Development to register their third win in four unbeaten games. Both Purton goals were scored in this one by Daren Regis, his second brace of the season.
The battle of last season’s top two Res/Dev sides at the InfilLED was another close encounter, decided by a solitary goal, with Melksham Town Res putting the ball in their own net to give visitors Corsham Town Res all three points. Corsham sit 4th in the early league table after this latest win, with Melksham in 10th spot.
A late winner from Dale Richards gave Royal Wootton Bassett Town, fielding a side primarily containing first team players, a narrow 2-1 win over visitors Cricklade Town, Alfie Presley with the other Royal Wootton Bassett Town goal. Jonathan Peachey-Score, with his eighth of the season scoring for the visitors Cricklade.
The battle at the bottom between Ludgershall Sports and Pewsey Vale Development was postponed.
