After the weekend’s action Kintbury Rangers remain top of the league but they lost their 100% record as they had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at Cricklade Town. It had started well for the leaders as they went in front after just 30 seconds, Josh Davis with his second of the season. Cricklade got themselves back into the match with an equaliser from Jason Tatum to go in level at the break. Both sides looked for the winner in the second half but Cricklade’s cause was not helped when they were reduced to ten men, but in the end neither side were able to find the net again and it was honours even and the points shared.
Purton continued their good start to the season and remain unbeaten, joining Kintbury on 13 points at the top of the table, after a 3-0 home win at the Red House against Holt. On target for Purton in this one were Darren Regis, with his fifth of the season, last seasons top scorer Will Backhouse with his fourth of the season and Jack Duckers. Purton remain second on goal difference.
Corsham Town Reserves moved up into third spot after an emphatic home win over Stratton Juniors following an impressive second half showing at the Southbank. Star of the show was Jamal Chevolleau who helped himself to a hat-trick, the experienced Dan Lardner bagged a brace and there was one a piece for Nathan Phillimore, Ryan Withers and Darrin Moss. Stratton’s first was scored by Scot Garrett and Danny Hale with a free kick fired in their second.
It was a tight affair at the Gerard Buxton between Royal Wootton Bassett Town Dev and Shrewton United who were both looking for their fourth win of the season. Matty Bennett went close to breaking the deadlock for the home side on 15 minutes but Shrewton keeper Reece Knowles pulled off a fine save from Bennett’s powerful shot. On the half hour mark Shrewton had a strong appeal for a penalty for handball but the decision did not go their way. A couple of chances just before the break for both sides, firstly Knowles pulled off another great save to deny Charlie Evatt, whilst at the other end Adam House in the Bassett goal saved well from a free kick from Conor Cutler to leave it goal less at the break. The deadlock was broken immediately after the interval when captain Steven Holvey created space for himself in the box from a free kick and headed powerfully into the net to put Shrewton in front. The closest the home side came to getting an equaliser was when Matty Bennett hit the post on 66 minutes. Saul Johnson went close at the other end with a shot minutes later but there was to be no further goals as Shrewton ran out 1-0 winners in a good game of football. Despite the win Shrewton dropped to fourth on goal difference.
