Wiltshire Senior League
Current Teams' Records in the Premier Division
The summary above shows the latest up to date record after Season 2017-18 of the16 teams in the top division of the Wiltshire Senior League since its inception in 1976-77. The analysis excludes any games that were expunged from the record books, only picking up those that are recorded in the final league tables for each season.

Where teams are Development or Reserve Teams and there have been a few changes of name over the years the analysis picks up the 2nd team at each of the clubs (this is relevant for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development, Malmesbury Victoria and Pewsey Vale Development).

With the League having completed its 42nd season the analysis shows the side that has spent the most seasons in the Premier(or Division 1 prior to 1998) is Devizes Town Reserveswith 33 seasons. This period also includes the record for longest single spell in the top flight of 29 seasons and counting. The team with the second highest number of seasons over the whole period in the top flight is Marlborough Townwith 27. Obviously, the lowest number is one with Football ID(formerly known as Bremhill) and Kintbury Rangershaving completed just one season with the league.

When it comes to looking at average points per game, win ratios, average goals etc the figures for these two new teams distort the analysis. For example, Kintbury Rangers championship winning season sees them with an impressive win ratio of 78.1% and 2.44 average points per game. If you exclude these two new sides the best win ratiois Shrewton Unitedwho have won 60.6% of their games. They are closely followed by Trowbridge Townwith a figure of 55.7%. Cricklade Townare next best with a ratio of 53.6%.

When it comes to points per game the fact that until 1992-93 you only got two points for a win instead of three means you are not getting a valid comparison if you just take the figures from the league tables over the 42 seasons. In order to allow for a true comparison to be made an adjustment has been made in the column headed “Adj, Avg Pts Ratio” to assume that three points applied throughout the 42 seasons.  Just looking at actual points, again ignoring Kintbury for now, Shrewton Unitedhave the best average point score of 1.90 per game. which rises to 1.97 when you make the adjustment. Trowbridge Town have the next best after Shrewton of 1.84. A score close to 2 is impressive for both sides and, in the case of Shrewton United, given that this is over 19 seasons you can see they have been a real force in the league over a sustained period of time.

At the other end the disappointing first season for Football ID also distorts the statistics as their win ratio of just 15.6% is easily the lowest, with the next worst being Malmesbury Victoria Development on 19.1% and Pewsey Vale Development on 22.5%. In terms of average points per game Football ID are again bottom on 0.56 with Malmesbury Victoria Development having a score of 0.69 and Pewsey Vale Development 0.80.

Kintbury bagged an impressive 3.9 goals per game in winning their league title, Shrewton United  are the next best top scorers on average with 2.8 goals per game just ahead of Cricklade Town on 2.7. At the other end it is again Malmesbury Victoria Development (1.1) and Pewsey Vale Development (1.3) who are the lowest scorers.

The best defensive record again goes to Kintbury Rangers who conceded an average of just under 1.0 goal per game in racing to the title last season, with Trowbridge Town on 1.3 average goals conceded having the next best record. The worst record is that of Football ID who shipped an average of 3.1 goals per game last season whilst the record of both Malmesbury Victoria Development and Pewsey Vale Development is an average goals conceded per game of 2.7 over the period they have been in the top division of the league.
