Club History
Calne Town is one of the oldest clubs in Wiltshire, having been founded in 1886. For the first few years they played friendlies and entered the Wilts Cup for the first time in 1891-92. They made history by playing the first ever game in the Wilts League in September 1884 when they beat Bradford Town 9-0. They played in the centre of the town at the Recreation Ground and in 1920 amalgamated with Harris F.C. to become Calne and Harris United F.C. The Harris in the name came from the bacon factory that dominated the skyline in the middle of Calne. The name remained the same until the early 1960's when the original name of Calne Town was re-adopted. At the same time the club relocated to Bremhill View where there was more scope to improve facilities and which has been the club's ground until the present day.Calne Town is one of the oldest clubs in Wiltshire, having been founded in 1886. Prior to the Wiltshire Senior League being established Calne Town Reserves played in the Wiltshire Combination Junior Division and played in one of the two new Junior Divisions in Season 1976-77 of what was then known as the Wiltshire County League. After a 10th place finish in the inaugural season Calne Town Reserves were placed in the top Junior Division the following season but after finishing bottom in Season 1978-79 were relegated to the lower division, Division 4.
After a title winning season in Season 1982-83 which saw Calne Town Reserves win 26 of their 30 league games Calne Town Reserves were back in Division 3 where they were to remain until the end of Season 1985-86. With their first team promoted to the Western League Calne Town Reserves stepped up to Senior status for the first time in Season 1986-87. Calne Town Reserves immediately adapted well to the higher status securing promotion to the top Division, then branded Division 1, at the first attempt. They were to remain in the top division for eight seasons but after second from bottom position in Season 1994-95 they dropped down to the Trowbridge & District League.
They returned to the Wiltshire League in Season 2001-02 playing in the newly established Intermediate Division. When the Intermediate concept was disbanded they played one season at Junior level but a fourth placed finish saw them promoted to the top division which by now had been rebranded as the Premier Division.
Calne Town Reserves were to spend 13 consecutive seasons in the Premier Division, eight of which saw top five finishes. The best season by far was Season 2012-13 which saw them crowned Premier Division champions for the one and only time, losing just two of their 26 games. Unfortunately, as is often the case after a title win, the success could not be maintained and after four seasons at the bottom end of the table, Calne withdrew, re-grouping in the Trowbridge & District League. Promotion from Division Two was achieved at the first attempt after a third place finish but their two seasons in the top division were both to be disrupted by Covid. The second of those two seasons, Season 2020-21 Calne sat top of the pile when the season was brought to a premature end, and they were able to take promotion back to the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division under the Feeder League arrangements. Calne Town Reserves were to have a very successful first season back in the Wiltshire League and it was only after the very last game of the season that they dropped out of the top five where they had been all season, eventually finishing sixth just one point below fifth placed Malmesbury Vics Res.
Season 2022-23 saw Calne Town Reserves field a very young side but they once again had a good season finishing in the top half of the table and will no doubt be looking to improve on their eighth place finish this coming season.
Season 2023-24 once again saw Calne field a very young side but found it harder going in their third season back at this level, eventually finishing in 12th spot in the table. Their final league game of the season saw them reach the milestone of 700 games in the top division of the league.
