Long before the FA had established partnerships with the like of UK Deaf Sport, England Deaf Football and the National Deaf Children’s Society to ensure football is inclusive of players with different levels and types of hearing loss, a side based around players with hearing disabilities played in the Wiltshire County League. At the start of the 1990’s a side representing the Salisbury Deaf Social Club joined the Wiltshire County League. They had played Cricklade Town from Division 4 of the league in Season 1989-90 in the Wiltshire Junior Cup, losing 2-0 to their County League opponents and made the decision to join the County League the following season, joining Cricklade in Division 4 for Season 1990-91.
Their first season in the league was a difficult one as they lost all 24 league games, conceding an average of six goals per game. A much improved second season saw Salisbury Deaf win four and draw two of their 24 league games. However, they again suffered some heavy defeats and at the end of the season they notified the league they would be pulling out after just two seasons due to a lack of players.
