Marlborough clinch welcome first point
Marlborough Town turned in the performance of the day in the Skurray’s Wiltshire League by holding leaders Malmesbury Victoria to a goal-less draw. It was Marlborough’s first point of the season in Division One at their seventh attempt. By no means outplayed, Marlborough held their own and at times looked the better side, Malmesbury were unlucky in the first half with a good effort that hit the woodwork. Both Biddestone and Southbrook failed to take advantage of the leaders’ dropped points. Second placed Biddestone were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Bradford Town, Simon Hillier netting for Biddestone, and third in the table Southbrook were beaten 3-1 at Corsham Town. Corsham took the lead on the stroke of half-time with a goal by Rob Humphries, the Swindon side equalising 15 minutes into the second half through Geoff Averies. Frankie Coleman then took the honours with two late goals to give his side victory. Tisbury United registered a 3-1 home win over Raychem thanks to two penalties from Paul Britten and a strike by Darren Hawkins. Wroughton at home to Aldbourne, were 2-1 down at the break but their half time cuppa worked wonders in the second half when they netted six times to run out winners by 7-2, Tony Smith helping himself to five goals and Paul Jardine and Lee Curtis one apiece.
The top of the table clash in Division Two resulted in a 3-2 victory for Cricklade over GPS who had won all their six previous games. Cricklade gave their opponents a good start after three minutes when Rodney Back headed into his own net. GPS went further ahead through Gary Faircloth who latched onto a long clearance to add a second. Danny’s double sets up victory for Town
Two goals by Bradford Town’s Danny Reeves in the first half provided the shock result of the day in Division One when league leaders Malmesbury Victoria were unable to peg back the two early goals and suffered their first defeat of the season. Corsham Town, a couple of points behind in third spot, failed to take advantage of the leaders’ slip up and were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Aldbourne. Corsham’s equaliser came from Paul Sanderson ten minutes from time. Devizes Town Reserves were 2-1 home winners over Raychem. After a goalless first 45 minutes Devizes took the lead through Elliott Williams, Raychem equalising with a penalty by Rich Casey. Two minutes later Andy Stone scored the winning goal to give Devizes the points. Champions Shrewton United scored the only goal of the game against Tisbury United, Dean Foot netting 15 minutes from time to move them midway up the table. After getting that first point the week before Marlborough were brought back down to earth, going down 3-0 away against Wroughton at the Weir Field. Tony Smith set Wroughton on their way with a goal in the first half and further goals in the second half through Lee Curtis and a Paul Jardine penalty completed the scoring.

Lee Marshall and Mark Bradley gave the visitors a two goal lead, Dalen Gleed pulling a goal back for Bromham on the stroke of half time. The all Swindon clash between Burmah Castrol and Dunbar Athletic resulted in a 4-0 win for Burmah, Stuart Phillips grabbing a hat-trick and Paul Donelly adding a fourth. The bottom of the table clash at Pewsey, where Purton reserves were the visitors, resulted in a win the home side by 1-0, scored by Neil Stevens after 35 minutes.
Down Ampney made it seven wins out of seven in Division Three when they defeated Raychem reserves 4-1. Visitors Raychem went a goal up after two minutes but after Martin Fairchild equalised the result was never in doubt as Jason Edwards and a Jimmy Wright penalty plus a further goal from Fairchild ensured Ampney’s 100 per cent record. Strugglers surprise leaders
Outstanding result of the day was in Division Three where bottom club Sunstrand registered their first win of the season against league leaders Down Ampney , winning by 2-1. Down Ampney who had won all their previous seven games, found themselves a goal down from a strike by Martin Hall but fought back to equalise through Jimmy Wright. Sunstrand broke away in the last five minutes to score the winner through Ian Starkey.
Division One leaders Malmesbury Vics resumed their winning ways after a couple of indifferent results when they beat Raychem on their own ground by 2-1. Ashley Willis Malmesbury’s top marksmen and Mike Langley scored for the leaders and Wayne Glastonbury netted for the home side. Corsham Town also regained their form beating Wroughton by 5-2. GPS took advantage of Cricklade’s dropped points to go top of the table on goal difference when they beat Warminster Town Reserves by 3-1. Neil Edwards gave GPS the lead, Laidlaw equalising for Warminster. With the game looking set for a draw Simon Wright and John Peters netted in the last eight minutes to give the Swindon side victory. Bromham defeated bottom side Purton Reserves 2-1 whilst Melksham Town Reserves were 2-0 winners away at Dunbar Athletic. Pewsey Vale Reserves won for the second consecutive week with a narrow 3-2 success away at Burmah Castrol.
In the Second Round of the Addkey Senior Cup, Bradford Town were 1-0 winners over Aldbourne to progress through to the last eight.

There were more draws in the division as Box Rovers and Bromham drew 2-2, as did Sherston Town and Marlborough Town Reserves. Biggest winners of the day in the division were Blunsdon United who hit four unanswered goals at home to Burmah Castrol Reserves.

Aldbourne claim first victory
After a desperate start to the season Aldbourne, bottom of Division One registered their first victory of the season when they defeated Southbrook 5-2. Tony Price gave Aldbourne a first half lead, with Mark Bennett adding a second and third after the break. There was no hint of the goal glut at Corsham in the first 45 minutes when Luke Chapman gave the home side a 1-0 goal lead. After the break goals came at regular intervals through Frankie Coleman, Rob Humphreys (2), Stuart Skinner and substitute Dave Turner. Wroughton also found their shooting boots, defeating Raychem 7-1. Raychem took an early lead through Mark Ayres, Wroughton fighting back to lead 3-1 at the break. Shrewton United were 1-0 winners at Bradford Town, Andrew Hughes, in his first game for the senior side, scoring the only goal in a close fought contest.

In the other second round tie, Devizes Town Reserves beat Pewsey Vale Reserves 2-1 after extra time. With the score level at 1-1 after 90 minutes a penalty by Andy Stone in the second period of extra-time clinched the tie for Devizes. Earlier Matt Messenger had netted for Pewsey and Stone for Devizes.
Division Two leaders GPS were surprisingly beaten on their own ground 2-0 by Burmah Castrol, Brendon Graham netting twice in the second half. Bottom clubs Purton Reserves and Dunbar Athletic met at the Red House, Dunbar running out winners 3-0 thanks to strikes from Andy Jarmey, Steve Thomas and Nick Johnson. A hat-trick by Roger Longjohn and a goal from Simon Brothwell gave Chippenham Town Reserves a comfortable 4-1 win over Warminster.
Division Three leaders Down Ampney, whose 100 per cent record was dented by bottom club Sunstrand last week, looked to be heading for another disaster, going three goals down in the opening 20 minutes against Biddestone Reserves, but a penalty from Jimmy Wright and second half goals by Robbie Goulding, Jason Edwards, Errol Johnson and an own goal gave the leaders a 5-3 victory. Dave Downing (2) and Steve Ferris netted for Biddestone. Sunstrand failed to keep up the promise shown last week and were beaten 4-2 at home by Wootton Bassett Sports. Wroughton Reserves beat Ferndale Rodbourne 4-1, Graham Macbeth, Lee Curtis, Andy Eatwell and David Chapman on target for Wroughton and Aaron Hellawell for the visitors.

Corsham held by 10 man Bradford
Bradford Town had their goalkeeper sent off after only 20 minutes, but held on to hold Skurray’s Wiltshire League First Division rivals Corsham Town to a 1-1 draw in the first round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup. Bradford took the lead through Mark Connor in the 10th minute, but ten minutes later keeper John Fox was sent off when he handled a goal bound chip by Corsham’s Rob Humphries outside his area. From the free kick Frankie Coleman drove the ball into a wall of defenders and the ball flew into the net after taking a deflection. For the rest of the 90 minutes Bradford defended well and during extra-time could well have snatched the winner when Viv Mason missed a sitter with a few minutes remaining. In another all Wiltshire League tie Dunbar Athletic were beaten 4-1 on their own ground by Wroughton. Paul Jardine (2), Tony Smith and John Fuller were on target for Wroughton, Roy Brown netting for Dunbar. Darren Dodds and Mark Stacey scored for Chiseldon and Graham MacBeth for Wroughton. Ferndale Rodbourne gained a 5-2 win over Aldbourne Reserves and Raychem Reserves and Highworth Athletic drew 2-2.

Villages take lead in title race
Waterlogged pitches disrupted the league programme. Corsham Town’s game at Raychem and Malmesbury Vics’ home fixture with Tisbury were both called off, enabling Biddestone to become the new leaders of Division One after their 3-0 away win at Aldbourne. Biddestone took a first half lead with a goal by Tim Tasker and Spencer Clifford added the finishing touch after the break netting twice. At the other end of the table Marlborough Town fought hard before going down 2-1 at home to Devizes Town Reserves. Richard Jackson struck first for Marlborough, Andy Stone levelling the scores just before the break. In the second half Andy Davies netted for Devizes to put them in third spot, just one point behind the leaders. Southbrook beat Shrewton United 3-2 in a five goal thriller played at Pinehurst Road. Kevin Cook gave Wroughton the lead from the penalty spot after 40 minutes, a lead they held until the last minute when a mix up in defence allowed the visitors to draw level. Wootton Bassett Sports and Ferndale Rodbourne took part in a five goal thriller, Paul Burke and Gary Jefferies scoring for the home side in the first half, Steve Shaw replying twice for the visitors. In a tense struggle after the break Micky Turner netted the winner for Ferndale Rodbourne ten minutes after the restart. Leaders tumble to shock defeat
Division Three bottom club Sunstrand once again turned the form book upside down when they defeated league leaders Down Ampney by 2-1 to complete a winning double. It was only the second defeat of the season for Down Ampney who must be looking on the Swindon side as a bit of a Jonah. Ampney took an early lead through Kirk Wheeler but a penalty by Ian Hooper and a late goal by Peter Stradling gave Sunstrand their shock victory. Also in Division Three Corsham Town Reserves, fielding several first team players, beat Raychem Reserves by the day’s highest score 9-0. Frankie Rogers (4), Frankie Coleman (2), Neil Brown (2) and Luke Chapman were the scorers. Also in a goal hungry mood were Wootton Bassett Sports who chalked up seven goals to Wroughton Reserves one. Matt was on target twice and Richard Martin and Nick O’Dwyer scored one each for Aldbourne.
Aldbourne’s senior side gained their third win of the season in Division One when they defeated fellow strugglers Tisbury United by 3-1. The three points enabled them to pull clear from the bottom of the division, leaving Marlborough Town anchored at the bottom with Tisbury a place above. Marlborough Town are going through a grim spell and were beaten away to Southbrook by 4-0. The home side’s goals came from a hat-trick by Jason Daley and one from James Toomey. Devizes Town Reserves moved into second spot in the division after their 2-1 win at Wroughton. Hopkins put the visitors into the lead midway through the first half, Sean Brown equalising for Wroughton ten minutes into the second period. Chippenham Town Reserves beat second in the table Cricklade Town 6-3 in Division Two, Cricklade coming from behind to level the scores at 3-3. Ken Cartledge, Matt Pratley, Wayne Munday, Simon Brothwell and Alan Newman were the Chippenham scorers. Leaders Melksham Town Reserves were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw on their own ground by Bromham. Strugglers hold on for a point
Marlborough Town goalkeeper Richard Stevens was in fine form for his side, earning them a point against Division One leaders Corsham Town in a 1-1 draw. Bottom of the table Marlborough took a first half lead with a goal by Richard Jackson after a good cross by Steve Foster. Ten minutes after the break Frankie Coleman put Corsham on level terms and the leaders then pinned the home side in their own half looking for the winner. However, stout defending from Stevens’ colleagues gained Marlborough a valuable point. There were plenty of goals at Aldbourne where the home side were beaten 6-4 by Shrewton United. Nick O’Dwyer netted twice for Aldbourne to put them into the lead. Shrewton replied with goals by Neil Burden, Micky Ball and Andy Hughes. An excellent free kick from Aldbourne’s Mark Bennett then levelled the scores at 3-3, Roy Green, Micky Ball and Dean Foot then put the visitors into a 6-3 lead before O’Dwyer added a fourth for Aldbourne to complete his hat-trick. In an all Swindon clash at Southbrook the home side beat Raychem by 2-0. Raychem had the better of the first half but after the break Ray Shaw struck twice to give the home side victory. In Division Three leaders Down Ampney were beaten 2-1 on their own ground by Corsham Town Reserves, Jimmy Wright netting from a first half penalty for Ampney and Frankie Rogers scoring both Corsham goals after the break. Corsham pulled a goal back ten minutes from time through Stuart Skinner. Second placed Devizes Town Reserves were involved in the quarter finals of the Addkey Senior Cup where they were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw after extra-time by Second Division Cricklade Town. After a goal-less first period Dean Foot chalked up a hat-trick in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, Justin Guineri scoring a late goal for Marlborough. The game between Tisbury Utd and Bradford Town was abandoned with Bradford leading 2-1 at the time of the abandonment.
Division Two leaders Melksham Town opened up a six point gap over Cricklade when they beat Bromham 3-1. An Adi Kember penalty gave the home side the lead but Simon Burns (2) and Robbie Simmons replied for Melksham after the break. Bromham’s cause was not helped when they had Martin Williams sent off two minutes into the second half. A goal by Tony Lucas gave Dunbar Athletic a 1-0 win over Pewsey Vale Reserves and Neil Edwards, Gary Spencer and Derek Watson scored for GPS in a 3-1 win over Purton Reserves, Cutter netting for the visitors. Wroughton grab points
Waterlogged pitches disrupted the Skurray’s Wiltshire League programme with only three games being played in the top two divisions. Divisions Three and Four fared slightly better, however, with six matches beating the elements.
In Division One Wroughton took on Southbrook at the Weir Field in a closely contested game and ran out winners by 3-2. Southbrook shocked the home side by netting twice in the first 45 minutes, through Ray Shaw and James McIlheron, but after the break Wroughton staged a mini-revival and equalised with goals by Tony Law and Paul Jardine. With the game looking likely to end in a draw a strike by Tony Law in the last minutes of the match gave Wroughton victory and all three points. In the only other game played in the section, Bradford Town gained a 2-0 win over Aldbourne, Jerad O’Pray scoring a goal in each half.
In Division Two the local derby between Dunbar Athletic and Burmah Castrol ended all square at one goal apiece. Gareth Davies gave Dunbar a 1-0 lead at the interval but Burmah drew level after the break with a goal by Paul Donnelly.
Wootton Bassett Sports did Division Three league leaders Down Ampney a favour when they beat second in the table Biddestone Reserves. Bassett opened the scoring with a goal from Kenny Regan, the visitors equalising shortly after. Midway through the second half Alan Jones struck for the home side to give them victory and dent Biddestone’s championship hopes. Wroughton Reserves completed a club double when they registered a 2-0 away win over Sundstrand with goals coming from Paul Rideout and Mark Silvanus. Wroughton also lost the services of Kevin Cook when he received a red card.
Division Four leaders GPS Reserves were in action at Kingsdown, beating visitors Malmesbury Vics Res by 2-1 to maintain their eight point lead at the top of the table. Wayne Petrie gave GPS the lead after 20 minutes, the Vics drawing level shortly after. With just five minutes of the game remaining Simon Wright struck for the leaders to give them all three points. Blunsdon United, who at one stage looked to be the leaders nearest rivals, lost 1-0 against Burmah Castrol Reserves, Sean Ely scoring the all important goal. In an evenly contested game at Bromham where Minety were the visitors, the home side scored the only goal of the game through Richard Dyke ten minutes into the second half. Marshfield shared the points with Dunbar Athletic in a 1-1 draw Mark Pagett giving Marshfield the lead 20 minutes into the game with Dunbar equalising from the penalty spot 20 minutes into the second half. It should also be noted that Marshfield have reached the semi-final of the GFA Minors Cup and take on the Bristol side CTK South Side reserves on Saturday coming. The club last won the trophy back in the 1973-74 season.

Purton go through to final
Purton reached the final of the Wilts Senior Cup by defeating Division One side Bradford Town 2-1. Bradford opened the scoring midway through the first half with a good effort from the edge of the box by Derek Burke. Two good chances fell to Bradford’s Viv Rayson but Complete Music Hellenic League side Purton were let off the hook and they trailed by just one goal at the break. After the interval Purton began to get into their stride and equalised from the penalty spot through Steve Tucker. With extra-time looming a good run and cross by Purton’s Ian Curtis enabled Mark Gardner to score the winner.
Cricklade Town from Division Two reached the semi-final of the Addkey Senior Cup by defeating Division One championship contenders Devizes Town Reserves by 5-2. In one of their best performances of the season Cricklade took the lead midway through the first half when Chris Lang chipped the Devizes keeper from 20 yards. Almost immediately Devizes drew level through Chris Taylor, who headed in a rebound off the bar. Minutes before the break a good volley by Mark Bradley regained Cricklade’s lead. Five minutes into the second half a diving header by Dave Parker increased Cricklade’s lead but ten minutes later Clive Taylor scored from a free header inside the box. Lee Marshall then added a fourth with a good effort through a crowded penalty area and Steve Avenell rounded off the scoring by adding a fifth in an impressive Cricklade display. Also in the Addkey Senior Cup Malmesbury Victoria beat Shrewton United on their own ground by 3-1. After a goalless first half Roger Smith opened the scoring for the Vics, Roy Green levelling the scores with an excellent header shortly after. Dale Witchard then regained the Vic’s lead and Anthony Vizzard made sure of victory with a third goal in the closing stages.

Bromham Reserves and Blunsdon United shared the points in an entertaining 1-1 draw, Darren Dawson netted for Blunsdon and Phil Gibson for the home side. Minety won 4-1 at Marlborough Town Reserves, Steve Venn (2), Jon Snell and Nick Cope netting for Minety and Lee Blanchard for the home side. Purton’s nine men then held out until just before the break when Steve Avenell opened the scoring. In a goal avalanche after the break Avenell completed his hat-trick and Mark Bradley (2), Gary Fell, Steve Willie and an own goal completed a miserable afternoon for the Red House side. GPS remain third after their 2-1 away win at Bromham. Corsham drop vital points in title race
Division One leaders Corsham Town dropped valuable points in their championship challenge when they were held to a goal-less draw at home by Malmesbury Vics. Corsham with a strong wind behind them in the second half kept the Vics penned in their own half but failed to pierce a well marshalled defence. Wroughton shared the points in a 2-2 draw at Bradford Town thanks to a fine display of goalkeeping by the club’s Under 17’s keeper Ian Fawkes. Danny Reeves opened the scoring for the home side, Wroughton drawing level when Tony Law netted from a well taken free kick. After the break Bradford’s Jerad O’Pray put his side into the lead again bending a superb free kick around the Wroughton defensive wall. Shortly after Paul Jardine levelled the scores again but despite heavy pressure by the home side Wroughton clung on for a point thanks to some great stops by their young keeper. Shrewton United kept up their challenge for the runners-up spot by beating Tisbury United on their own ground by 2-0. Biddestone kept their championship hopes alive by beating Marlborough Town 2-0, both goals coming in the first half from Tim Tasker and Spencer Clifford.
There was only one game played in Division Two, GPS losing at home to Burmah Castrol 3-2. Gary Spencer gave GPS an early lead but the visitors fought back to strike twice before the break with goals from Graham and Donnelly. Ian Edwards then levelled the scores for GPS but midway through the half Graham netted again for Burmah Castrol to give them victory.
There were only two games scheduled for Division Three, unlucky Highworth Athletic losing once again by 1-0 at home to Chiseldon, the all important goal coming from Andy Lydiard in the first half. Biddestone Reserves look favourites to fill the runners-up spot after beating Sundstrand on their own ground by 4-2, John Gibbs, Simon Sharpe (2) and Dave Ferris netting for Biddestone.
In Division Four Blunsdon United pushing hard for the runners-up spot did their cause no harm by knocking in six goals to Malmesbury Vics Reserves one to notch up three valuable points. Brown on mark in cup win
Corsham Town Reserves are through to the final of the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup after their 2-0 win over Chiseldon on Saturday. Corsham started at a frantic pace and had a goal disallowed in the first minute. Sixty seconds later Neil Brown netted to give Corsham a one goal lead, a lead they held until the break. Midway through the second half another strike by Brown put the game beyond doubt and gave Corsham a place in the final against Wroughton Reserves.
Shrewton United reached the final of the Wiltshire League’s Addkey Senior Cup by beating Biddestone by 2-1. Shrewton were soon into their stride and took a goal lead after five minutes when a corner was knocked into the net by Roy Green. United continued on top for the rest of the half and a minute before the break Andy Hughes added a second. Biddestone came more into the game after the break but had to wait until five minutes from time when Shrewton keeper John Burton brought down a Biddestone forward in the box and was sent off, Jimmy Tasker converting the ensuing penalty. Shrewton then had to hang on for the remaining five minutes to secure a place in the final where they meet either Melksham Town Reserves or Cricklade.
Both scheduled games in Division One were postponed due to waterlogged pitches but there was better luck in Division Two where all three games beat the weather. Leaders Melksham Town Reserves were in action at home to Burmah Castrol, beating the Swindon side by 4-2. Steve Cripps gave Melksham the lead midway through the first half and Robbie Simmonds header gave them a 2-0 interval lead. Burmah Castrol pulled a goal back at the start of the second half with a strike by Adie Davies but the home side countered by adding a third from Michael Frelaigne and a fourth from substitute Toby Colborn. Burmah scored a second goal in the closing stages. Dunbar Athletic did well to share the points at Chippenham in a 2-2 draw. The home side’s player/manager Gary Skidmore gave his side the lead, Simon Brothwell adding a second before the break. In a spirited fightback after the interval the Swindon side netted twice to share the spoils with goals by Maggs and Bailey. Bromham gained a comfortable 3-0 win over Pewsey Vale Reserves, Graham Campion giving his side a first half lead with Jerry Thompson adding a second and Campion a third.
In Division Four Cricklade Town reserves emerged the day’s highest scorers, beating Marlborough Town Reserves by 6-1, Steve Willie (4), Steve Avenell and John Davies the scorers. Spot on Kearley secures cup win
Cricklade Town reached the final of the Addkey Senior Cup in their first season in the competition beating Melksham Town Reserves 1-0. In a dour semi final neither side gave much away until Cricklade’s Dave Parker was brought down in the box and Dave Kearley scored from the spot for the only goal of the game. In the second half Cricklade defended their lead well, with Justin Stephens, Steve Paish and Lee Marshall outstanding in defence. Cricklade will now meet First Division Shrewton United in the final.
Aldbourne provided the shock of the day in Division One when they beat championship challengers Devizes Town Reserves on their own ground 1-0. The defeat means that Devizes would have to win their two remaining games by a huge margin and leaders Corsham Town would have to lose their last game of the season for Devizes to beat Corsham to the title. The only game came in the first half with a strike from Tom Hunt. Biddestone, bidding for the runners-up spot, finished their season with a 6-3 away win over Southbrook. The visitors built up a six goal lead before Southbrook rallied in the last 20 minutes to score through Jason Daly (2) and Ray Shaw. Simon Hillier netted a hat-trick for Biddestone with Mark Neil, Paul Southway and Sean Woods scoring one apiece. Corsham Town, away to Malmesbury Victoria, built up a two goal interval lead with goals by Stuart Skinner and Rob Humphries. Malmesbury pulled a goal back from a Roger Smith penalty after the break but Humphries struck again for Corsham to seal the game. Shrewton United beat Wroughton 6-1, Dean Foot put Shrewton into the lead, the Swindon side equalising shortly after through Steve Harris. Dave Turner and Neil Burden then netted to give Shrewton a 3-1 lead at the break and further goals came from Brian Blake, Roy Green and Paul Watson in the second half.
There was one game played in Division Two, GPS beating Chippenham Town Reserves on their own ground 2-1. Ben Moore gave the home side an interval lead but two goals in the last quarter of the game by Nick Camden and Jon Peters gave the Swindon side victory.

New boys brave cup bid ended
Cricklade Town appearing in the Addkey Senior Cup final in their first season as a senior club were beaten 5-0 by First Division Shrewton United in the tie at Corsham Town’s ground. Shrewton took the lead after 15 minutes when a well worked move enabled full back Nick Jones to score from 12 yards. For the rest of the first period both sides had half chances to have scored, Cricklade twice hitting the woodwork. In the second half Shrewton stepped up a gear and Paul Watson increased their lead shortly after the restart. Watson then crossed for Mike Ball to add a third and Dean Foot completed the scoring by netting two more.
Later in the afternoon at Corsham Town the final of the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup between Wroughton Reserves and Corsham Town Reserves got underway ten minutes late due to a heavy storm. Lee Curtis opened the scoring for Wroughton. Andy Wildman equalised shortly after. Matt Criddle then put Wroughton back into the lead for what turned out to be the winning goal, Wroughton eventually running out 2-1 winners.
In Division One Aldbourne, who defeated Devizes Town Reserves last week, disappointed against Malmesbury Victoria and were held to a 1-1 draw. Bottom club Marlborough Town finished the season on a winning note beating Bradford Town 2-0. Wayne Presley netted midway through the first half with a good long range effort and Justin Guarnieri made sure of victory 20 minutes from time. Raychem were 3-1 home winners over Tisbury United.
GPS in Division Two were the day’s highest scorers, beating Pewsey Vale Reserves 7-1, with goals from Mark Croydon (3), Roger Frost (2), Gary Spencer and Gary Faircloth. Ross Anderson replied for Pewsey. Dunbar Athletic left it late against bottom club Purton Reserves, stalwart Mark Wesley scoring a hat-trick in his side’s 3-2 win over the Red House side. Purton took the lead through Mark Cutter and went 2-1 up in the second half with another strike from Cutter. Wesley then snatched Athletic’s win by netting twice. Melksham Town kept their title bid on track with a 4-0 home win over Chippenham Town Reserves.
The top two met in Division Four and Burmah Castrol aided their quest for the runners-up spot with a point away at champions GPS Reserves, 1-1 the final score. It was the same score line at Minety where a Steve Venn strike gave the home side a point in their game against Box Rovers. There was a nine goal thriller between Dunbar Athletic Reserves and Marshfield, the visitors Marshfield just edging it by the odd goal. Malmesbury dented West Swindon’s chances of finishing third with a 5-3 win over their visitors.

Setback to title dreams
Cricklade Town, who lost in the final of the Addkey Senior Cup last week, suffered another disappointment when they were held to a 2-2 draw at Warminster ruining their chances of becoming champions of Division 2. Ian Ross put Cricklade ahead but Justin Tugwell equalised. Chris Lang regained the lead for Cricklade and they looked to be heading for victory but with five minutes remaining Steve Richardson hit an equaliser.
Corsham Town are the champions of Division One despite being beaten by 1-0 in midweek by Shrewton United. Devizes Town Reserves, who had won in midweek, finished as runners-up after needing to win by 16 goals in their final game for the title. In that final game against Southbrook Clive Taylor emerged as the Devizes hero scoring four of his side’s five goals in their 5-1 victory. Nick Mooney added a fifth and Ray Shaw scored a consolation goal for the Swindon side. However, the five goals were not enough and meant Corsham Town pipped them on goal difference. Raychem and Bradford Town shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Raychem took a two goal lead with strikes by Paul Distill and Darren Jell, the visitors reducing the arrears from a penalty from Paul Shanley. After the break Danny Reeves equalised for Bradford from a corner.
In the only game played in Division Three Sundstrand and Corsham Town reserves drew 4-4. Sundstrand took a two goal lead, visitors Corsham levelling the score before the break. Corsham took the lead twice in the second half but on both occasions the home side equalised, Steve Peacey netting in the last minute. Other scorers were Ian Hooper (2) and Mark Flatman for Sundstrand and Steve Healey (2), Frank Rogers and Kevin Brown for Corsham.
In Division Four, Burmah Castrol Reserves had wrapped up runners-up spot behind GPS Reserves in midweek with a 5-0 away win at Ashton Keynes. The win assured them of second spot as on the same night Blunsdon United crashed 4-0 away at Cricklade Town Reserves. On the final Saturday of the season Cricklade Town Reserves could not maintain that winning form as they lost 1-0 to Bromham Reserves, Jeremy Thompson scoring ten minutes from time. Minety had ended West Swindon’s hopes of finishing in third in midweek with an impressive 6-0 win, a hat-trick from Willie Wood and two from Andy Billett plus one Colin Henderson in Minety’s big win. Saturday again saw six goals at Minety Playing Fields but this time it was honours even as they drew 3-3 with Ashton Keynes, Ian Crockett, Willie Wood and Andy Smith for Minety and Mark Bartlett with a hat-trick for Ashton Keynes. Blunsdon United were the day’s highest scorers beating Marshfield 8-1 to end five points ahead of West Swindon in that third spot. Dave Parker (2), Wayne Watts (2), Martin Simms, Steve Gunn, Paul Stanners and an own goal doing the damage. Dunbar Athletic Reserves and Malmesbury Vics Reserves fought out a dour no score draw, Dunbar hitting the woodwork several times.

Cricklade end with a win
Cricklade Town wrapped up their season in Division Two with a 3-0 home win over Bromham to finish just a point adrift of Melksham Town Reserves, showing how costly that late equaliser had been on Saturday.
