The draw for the First Round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup was made last night with four of the nine entrants from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League being given First Round fixtures and the other five sides receiving byes to the Second Round.
Shrewton United have been given an interesting First Round tie at home to Sydenhams Wessex League side Pewsey Vale for whom a couple of their former players, Craig Lewis and Jesse Walters, are currently playing. Pewsey have not started the season too well and are currently bottom of the Sydenhams Wessex Division 1 (Step 6) and are without a win in their opening five games. In contrast Shrewton have started the season well and an upset could be on the cards in this cup tie. The game is scheduled for Tuesday 8th October at Shrewton with a 7.45PM kick-off.
Another Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League side who have been drawn against higher league opposition are Purton who are currently unbeaten after five league fixtures. They must travel to take on Toolstation Western League side Devizes Town, that game also being scheduled for Tuesday 8th October with a 7.45PM kick-off. Devizes have also not started the season well, losing all three of their opening league fixtures so this is another game where the side from our league will fancy their chances of progressing to the next round if they can perform as they have been doing on the night.
The final First Round tie sees two sides from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League meet up as Holt play host to Marlborough Town. The Wiltshire FA have announced that game as taking place on Saturday 12th October but with landlords Westbury United home that day in the Western League this will probably be re-scheduled.
Cricklade Town, Ludgershall Sports, Stratton Juniors, Trowbridge Town and Wroughton all received byes to the Second Round.
The full First Round draw is as follows: Devizes Town v Purton Holt v Marlborough Town Shrewton United v Pewsey Vale
Bemerton Heath Harlequins bye Calne Town bye Corsham Town bye Cricklade Town bye Downton bye Laverstock & Ford bye Ludgershall Sports bye Malmesbury Victoria bye New College Swindon bye Stratton Juniors bye Trowbridge Town bye Warminster Town bye Wroughton bye
Two Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League sides, Frome Collegians and Kintbury Rangers, play in other county competitions. Frome play in the Somerset Senior Cup and are involved in First Round action this coming weekend when they entertain Brislington Reserves. Kintbury Rangers play in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and open their campaign in that competition with a home fixture against Westwood Wanderers on Saturday 14th September.
